Anyone compare F800GS (not the 850) to Tiger 800?

I had a BMW F800GS that I really liked but it was a little too tall for me. I sold it and bought a V-Strom 650. Even though the V-Strom was only a 650 the performance didn't feel that far behind the F800GS. That is to say, in all honesty, the F800GS felt like a dog to me. It had enough power to get the job done but just barely. The V-Strom didn't seem that much less powerful via seat of the pants riding but maybe I just had lower expectations and the bike met them whereas the F800GS motor did not?

The point is that I am thinking about buying a 2019 Triumph Tiger 800XRT and my local dealer does not have a demo bike for me to ride. I could probably test a brand new XC but I won't want to wring it out to see what the performance is like as the engine is not broken in.

So on paper a Triumph Tiger 800 has nearly the same torque output but more peak hp than the F800GS. If I buy a Tiger 800 I hope to gain some performance in the fourth gear pass a motorhome uphill scenario and was hoping maybe someone here has ridden the F800GS and could offer some opinions.

I did test ride a 2010 GS some time ago. Dog is correct. Bland is also fitting.

You don’t want to “wring it out” on a test ride bike? Common man... don’t even give it a second thought. I did wring mine out, so did I with my 2nd brand new bike after the Tiger, and bought them both. You WILL NOT HURT ANYTHING...

Before I bought my 2015 Tiger XCX, I did a comparo on the BeeEm. I am 6'1" and still found the thing a little tall for what I was looking for. Also, it was buzzy, vibration wasn't bad but just a consistent buzz through the whole bike. The Tiger had a lot more refinement and standard features straight out of the box that I wanted on the bike. I do think the Beemer is probably more suited to more off-road riding, but most of my time is on road and the engine of the Trumpie is far better for that....very smooth, plenty of power, economical.

that was enough for me to go Triumph, and would do so again at the drop of a hat.

I got to ride an G800 in Colorado at an adventure rally a few years ago. I had my 2013 Tiger 800 ABS for about 8 months at that time and really love it. Rode F800 on a test ride by BMW. Hated it, couldnít wait to get back to my Tiger. The beemer felt slow and awkward. In all fairness, it was a test bike but still several years newer than my Tiger.

My friend went from a DL650 to a Tiger1050. He loved the Suzuki but wanted a bit more power. The Tiger was a bit tall for him and then he had a slight get off and replaced the 1050 with a Tiger800 which he still rides. He didn't like the BMW. I rode the BMW ST/GT version and didn't like the engine either. Buzzy and you really needed to use the rpms to get anywhere in the lower gears. Might just be poor gearing choices by BMW. My friend's 800 is a 2014 and he never gripes about the power. Plenty of it and more accessible than the Beemer. And, it's a smoother triple. You don't mention whether you ride off road or not.
