My cockpit / above-gauges iPhone mount solution for <$30

This is a repost from ADVrider, but figured I'd share it here since not everyone is on both forums.

I started looking for an above gauge iPhone 6 mount as I wasn't happy with the sea of options available for handle bar mount, my main issue was that I had to look too far down and take my eyes off the road in order to read the navigation.

The other issue was that solutions from SW-Motech/Ram/Touratech were in the range of $90-170, way more than what I wanted to pay for something this simple.

Here is my Frankenstein's monster:

1) Ram B-138U-C mount, purchased (used) on eBay: Cost - $19

2) Reserwa Bike Phone Mount with IP68 Waterproof Case for iPhone 7 360 Degrees Rotation Bike Phone Holder for Bike Motorcycle iPhone Bike bicycle Mount 3.9, purchased on Amazon. The iPhone 7 holder fits iPhone 6 perfectly, there is also an iPhone 6/7/8+ option for the same price: Cost - $7

Link to case iPhone 7 or 7+ its on the same page

3) Home Depot Screws: Cost - $1.40

Total cost of parts: $27.40

Step 1: Take off the windscreen, any basic set of hex keys will do

Step 2: Drill the holes that correspond to the size of the holes of the diamond base of the Ram mount. Mine came out a bit crooked but it doesnt really matter as the mount is adjustable in every direction so it has no effect on placement as you will see below. Also, I drilled with the bracket still on the bike, it seems very sturdy so i went ahead with it.

Step 3: Screw in the ram mount diamond base to the bracket with the Home Depot Screws listed above

The bracket and the ram mount arm are very sturdy, I do not foresee having long term issues with this setup.

Step 4: Attach the windscreen back on the brackets

Step 5: Undo the base of the phone case mount

Step 6: Attach the iPhone case base mount to the round base of the Ram mount, the holes should align perfectly. The iPhone case mount provides good hardware that looks like it was designed well for motorcycle use.

Step 7: Slide the phone case in

There is more than enough room to use an iPhone 6/7/8+ size case, the Ram mount extends enough above the gauges to be adjustable to any position.

Hope this was helpful and could save you a few $$!
