Update to my own personal TB Storm noise. My bike was at the dealer for 28 days for them to replace the cam chain tensioner and do a valve adjustment as well as fix the fuel gauge. I test drove it and the noise was still there, coupled with bottom end noise as well that I could feel the vibration with my left foot through the floorboard.
The owner and two mechanics drove it as well after I came back and reported the issue. This was my 32nd motorcycle I've owned to include Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Harleys. Air cooleds, liquids, v twins, straight 4s, v fours. Not a single one made noise like this Triumph and not noise in a good way. One mechanic did say he also heard intermittent noise as I described it. The other mechanic said the noises I'm hearing are, "characteristic to the motor", and the owner couldn't say one way or the other.
After much talking it over we decided the best course of action was for me to get my money back which they agreed to. Owner tried to get me to ride a 1200 but they're so much more than what I paid for the Storm I didn't want to get tempted.
I can't get over how these bikes are so much noisier in that a mechanic says it's characteristic of the motor. Basically that means I'm nuts. Ahhh well, I certainly wasn't comfortable with riding it with the noises it was making with the additional bottom end noise/vibration. Better safe than sorry as I tried to imagine selling the bike and couldn't for the life of me think of any knowledgeable rider buying it from me with it acting like that.
This has been an awful experience with my first Triumph and I hope it's not a sign of the Brand. Maybe I should ride the 1200 just to compare the two engines. I only buy liquid cooled motors these days as I like the nice quiet engines. I traded in a 2002 VTX 1800 for the Triumph and it was 100% quieter, a well oiled sewing machine (stock pipes just like the Triumph so both nice and quiet exhausts).
Thoughts/opinions welcome as to my "story" and what you all think it was. Cheers!
