Headlight Conversion

G'day everyone, just got my first bird (2010 1600) and I'm keen to convert to a dual light set up similar to the commander or the storm.

From what i have researched it can be done, just not cheaply unless i find a wreck, be keen to know if anyone else has done similar and tips for a newbie

thanks all

I’m doing the same thing. I bought a set of headlamps from a Rocket 3 (chrome versions of the Storm’s buckets) and will attempt to do this ASAP. It looks pretty straightforward.

yeah, i have done the same got the lights last week from a wrecker, including the wiring harness etc, i noticed on the bike that they pulled the twin lights off (rocket 111) that there was a secondary wire direct to the battery. I just hope the other connection is the same. if anyone has tips on getting the tank off i would appreciate that also

Wakinyan is not on the forum as much these days as he has traded for an Indian, but did this conversion I believe using Speed Triple headlights. There is a write up on here somewhere, but try reaching out to him via PM if you can't find it.

The ride might be fun, but at the end, it really is the Destination that counts.

I finished up my twin headlight conversion today. It was an easy job that took maybe 45 minutes. I had purchased a set of lights off of a Rocket 3 and they came with both harnesses. I purchased the OEM mount from a Storm online and the lights bolted right up. It is black, but one really does not notice it. I made this whole setup plug and play and I can switch it back to a single bucket in a few minutes if I ever want. I bought a three prong male halogen headlamp plug and simply wired it into both leads from the headlights. High/Low/Ground/Backup lamps. Worked fine and I took the bike on a 150 mile ride today to make sure. No issues at all and it looks so much better with two lights instead of one!!

Looks very nice Txrancher74 and nice bike by the way, glad to hear im planning on doing mine in a few weeks just waiting on the last of the bits to arrive, did the wiring on the rocket go directly into the harness on the Tbird? also did it have a hardwire to the battery?
the chrome trim either side of the lights, i have been trying to identify them do you know their description by any chance?
again thanks for your post
