No test rides from dealers in MD for 2012 Thunderbird Storm...

I went to 2 dealers today in Maryland to check out the 2012 T-Bird Storm; I'm seriously impressed by the bike and considering buying it. The first one in Baltimore had the matte black bike but hardly gave any information on the bike and seemed completely disinterested. He informed me that getting a test/demo ride on the Storm was a no-go since they are not given a demo bike from Triumph. The manufacturer usually does a demo truck for its dealer but the guy told me that this year Triumph isn't even doing that. I did sit on the bike but since it was on a side stand, I didn't get a feel of the actual riding position.

The second dealer didn't have any Storm model. They were getting a matte black bike in 2 weeks but no idea of the gloss black (the one I want to see and hopefully buy). Also told me a test ride on that bike was not going to happen. I asked him if I could test ride a regular Thunderbird (since they had one on display) but was told that some guy was in the process of finalizing the deal with them so they couldn't allow it.

I love the bike, especially after reading the feedback of actual owners here on this forum. But a no test ride might prove to be a deal breaker.

Any help on how to get around this problem would be appreciated.

Go to Triumph web site and fill out the request for a test ride. They will take care of the details. Good luck.

That sucks man. The first I went into my dealer, (to look at a T-Bird), I just commented to the sales guy, "That's a nice looking bike". He asked if I wanted to take for a ride. My reply; "yea, let me go get my helmet out of my truck". He even had to push it out of the sales floor.

BobKreyole: Thank you and much appreciated! I am also going to call their headquarters in Atlanta on Monday as listed on their web site and hope to get some clarity. Do you know how submitting this request works?

What I meant was the process after submitting the form? The dealer doesn't even have the model of the bike I am looking for. So was wondering how exactly will Triumph make that happen....(I shouldn't really be bothered how it happens, but am just curious.)

I hope you are able to get the test ride set up. Honestly the test ride is what sold me on the bike. I wanted the bike beforehand, but taking that ride is what pushed me over the edge.

Me, too. It was probably a foregone conclusion, but the testride sealed the deal. My dealer had no problem with me taking a testride, though he was cautious about how long / how many miles I put on it. I ended up -- with his permission -- putting on about four times as many miles (10) as he had first wanted...but since I ended up buying there I think we were both happy.

Yep, one time riding seals the deal. I tried out the 1600 and Storm. I was already sold on the 1600 but when I took the 1700 for a spin I had to have. Since I had only my America for about 6 months at the time I waited an excruciatingly long year to buy my Storm. It was more than worth the wait!

In the UK, Triumph are very keen on test rides. Any dealer not offering test rides would not be a dealer for very long.
As for demo bikes, a dealer is allowed a number of bikes (6 I think) as demo bikes at a significant discount above normal. The dealer can only sell them after a minimum time and mileage at which point they are able to reorder a replacement demo bike.
You can get the situation whereby a dealer is almost pleading with you to try a particular bike that has not been in demand as a demo just to get the miles up so he can sell it.
