short pipes on the T-bird

Have seen a bargain Thunderbird 1600 with the short flow triumph silencer fitted ( apparently these pipes sound better than the longer factory standard ones).........................but i was wondering what are the implications of having the short pipes fitted when it comes round to MOT time ? also if i have to change back to the standard pipes to get through an MOT is it just a case of change them back to the standard ( as this is an easy job) or will there need to be an engine retune after they are changed back ?.

Any advice is a great help thanks :-)

No idea.

Around here there is no MOT. However ... If they stop you and want to be pricks about your ride, they issue you a ticket that forces you to get an MOT inspection.

At that point you either pass or you can't ride on the road any more until you fix the "problems" the inspection agency identifies.

Don't know of anyone who has had an issue with the short TORS, but I'll ask next time I'm at the dealership.

I have the short TORS and haven't had a problem (yet). There are a couple of recent posts on here about guys riding Tbirds with the short TORS pipes with cops behind them and even chatting the cops up afterwards and getting nothing but good vibes.

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

thanks for the reply

Yeah i have heard the noise wont be a problem and it will be unlikely i will be stopped for it, but i have heard that it can fail the UK MOT with the short TORS on( but have also heard that all should be ok !!!
This is no problem if i can just swap the pipes over for the MOT test as i can easily do that myself , i was just wondering if it needs a dealer to retune the bike after the swap as that will cost more money and i much prefair to do this kind of work myself.
I suppose its just me trying to avoid spending any more that i have to :-)

No worries, just throw the stock pipes on, pass the MoT and get the shorties back on. All it'll do is run a bit rich -which isn't bad.
