Straight pipes for the Tbird

Greetings,

I mean straight pipes... no cat, no muffler... I would probably start by gutting the stock pipes, and then move to a 4x16 echo chamber, like on a car.

I've looked at the path of the stock exhaust and I think it can be done. Is the crossover required? Now I'm also pretty sure you'll need a power commander to get the tune right...

Any thoughts?

I am thinking the Staintune system or at least the crossover and stock pipes. I like the look of the big pipes. Plus, I think the crossover is a good idea to prevent any wierd exhaust dynamics and keep the two sides balanced.

Crossover pipe

On the smaller bikes (ie, the 856 and 790 engines), the cross over pipe is to help scavange the spent exhaust gasses because it allows the exhaust to flow through both pipes at the same time. If you open up the exhaust system with freer flowing pipes I believe you can eliminate the cross over pipe with no ill effects.

I debaffled the stock pipes on my America and eliminated the cross over pipe and love the difference in the sound. It sounds more like the classic Triumph engines because you can hear the individual cylinder pulses.

No matter either way.....look at the headers and you'll see there is already a crossover pipe up front.
