Mine is the standard with short tors, 1700 cc kit, Some chrome options and I have both the standard seat and the one piece long haul seat with the quick release back rest.
Got mine a little late in the year so my longer vacation rides were done on my old bikes. So far I have been doing day rides between 200 to 300 miles with a lot of little trips into town and for dinner thrown in for good measure. yesterday I took a long ride out threw the mountains right around 210miles and just wanted to keep going but its getting cold around here at night and had to get the other half home before the sun went down!
With some saddle bags and my bigger trunk bag I dont see any problems using this bike for an extended trip. I would recomend as with any bike you get one of the throttle locks or helpers if you plan on any extended highway travel. I have them on some of my other bikes and when your doing mostly long highway trips they are well worth having to give your hand/wrist a break.

Mine has about 1.5 gallons left when the "empty" light comes on. I get close to 40/42 mpg however I ride it. I weigh 190lbs. big bore kit and short TORS.

Sounds like a good comparison unless someone else is way off from that. I weigh almost 100 pounds more than you and my 1600 runs from 47 to 50 mpg. I don't baby it, but I don't play boy racer either. I have ridden with more aggressive friends and gotten into the low 40s, so the 1700 is not a huge penalty on mileage but there is a small difference.

LOL... I own 2 HD's and have ridden a Vrod quite a bit (my BF has one)... You'll notice I ride a Bird almost exclusively,

When I ride in a group... it seems the majority of the riders gather around other bikes...

I told the HD dealer when I made my choice... "everybody owns a HD"

First off, I believe you intended to "stir the pot" Secondly, emotions are like taste and you can't argue taste. If we both eat an apple you might think it's horrible and I might think it is the best thing I ever ate, you can't argue that (ok you can, but this usually ends in divorce).

There is only one person that can't truly answer your question, I leave it up to you to figure out who.

FYI I own the Storm (1700 cc), and I usually get around 40-42 MPG. If I ride hard I can hit 30-35.

Just went to the HD dealer today (2nd oil leak in 6 months, plus a $300 for steering head bearing). I'd say I'm one step closer to the Bird. I think it is the best looking bike around

I know your pain. My last Harley wore me out with the trips to the dealer.

My buddy with a HD dyna can't take his eyes off my Tbird. He has a constant mental battle with himself over it because he's in total love with it and wants one desperately, but he also has a burning need to be a harley tough guy with the tats and leather vest, do rag, the whole clown outfit. I make fun of him all the time and he just smiles and admits he's a poser but he just can't help himself ! LOL! The only way he can afford a Tbird is to sell the harley and with it goes his whole fake persona that he just can't live w/o !

Maybe a used one will show up over the winter, I need to make some touring mods, that is one of the things I dig. the Rod makes great power, not corners. I mean now thier telling me the extended warranty won't cover steering head bearings (falls under maintance) and gave me back the bike with the oil tank cover needing to be polished.
