Talking Tail of the Dragon

Spent a few days riding the TBird at the Tail of the Dragon a few weeks ago, which confirmed why I love this bike! Saw more sparks from the pegs than ever before... My favorite pic here is with the 18 year old on the Ninja just in front of us who at the end of that run through the Dragon remarked, "Every time I looked in my mirrors you were still right on my a$$! hehe.... This is one great cornering cruiser...

I was out there a couple of weeks ago, and my rear tire still had a pretty wide set of chicken strips on it... not so after just a single run! I am running the Dunlop dual-compound tire on the rear, and let me tell you, that outer edge of the tire is STICKY! I felt the tire after the one run I did, and could not believe how sticky it felt just to my fingers.

I know what you mean on the chicken strips, after the group I was riding with had completed our first run on the dragon, we were walking along the back of the bikes looking at the back tires and only my TBird and the guy with us on a Ninja were scrubbed edge to edge. All the HDs in our group had a couple of inches on each side...the best line of the day was when one of the guys with us as we were looking at the back tires said "what's a chicken strip?" we all laughed because the strips on the edge of his tire were the widest in our group. Saw a back tire on a Speed Triple that looked like someone had been roughing it up with a cheese grater from edge to edge... I'd say he was having some fun in those curves!

Whats it like when the pegs drag? I still haven't done it and I'm not sure if thats due to a plethora of corner planning, or a lack of balls!

Were you guys at the Dragon Raid? I was there Thurs, Fri, & Sat. Then I rode back up to the Dragon the following week solo. I ride a Bonnie, and I am sort of new (18 months & 20,000 miles) and I started scraping pegs for the first time on the Dragon. Scares the tinkle out of me, but I imagine in time I will get less and less freaked out by it. It does give you a sense of accomplishment to know you can lean that far over and not slide out. Kinda like doing a summersault off the low-dive board at the pool. You can do it, but your head keeps saying no.

It'll likely get your attention the first couple times you do it, but it feels more dramatic that it actually is. I wore the back outside edges of my boot heels off at an angle riding the Dragon on my Bird last year. Even managed to scrape the mid pipe a bit...Good Times!

Better living through chemistry.

Dragon Trip

Just got back from running the Dragon took 11 hours to get there and the bike ran great. Took some pictures of using my Triumph to jump start a Harley at the hotel before hitting the Dragon.
