Couple of quick ?'s

Going to be changing the oil on my Tbird here shortly. I was going to buy a K&N Oil Filter. Not for any special reason. I just happen to be purchasing a K&N Air Filter for it as well.

Can anyone speak to a superior oil filter for our bikes?

Also, the oil of choice...can you help me out.

Thanks,

I think the K&N or triumph is fine. As for oil, thats personal preference as long as you stick with known good oil. Mobil 1 bike oil or amsoil would be 2 of the most popular ones. Amsoil is hard to get tho.

Dazco's correct, he runs Mobil 1 I run Amsoil both exellent. Is this your first oil change? How many miles? 500mi. is your first change bot the Bird's not fully broken in till 1000-1500 mi. might go with a semi-syn. till then and go with a full syn. after this.

My dealer said they use semi-syn for 0-600 then full synthetic. The Castrol, Amsoil & Mobil1 are all GroupIV synthetics which won't have any ill effects on break in anyway. A group V synthetic like redline could cause issues but I don't thin redline is JasoMA approved anyway. I will only use Castrol or Mobil1 in this bike anyway.

True, but it costs a fortune to ship along with a high price tag to begin with. I also must say that while i cannot verify this, (then again who can really verify anything when it comes to oil) but it's been reported that amsoil's viscosity breaks down within something like 50 miles, so that for example 20w50 would break down from 50 Wt to 30 or 40 Wt. On the other hand, it's also been reported M1 bike oils have since the formula changed a while back been reported to do just the opposite. It's said thier 20w50 goes up to 60 over time. I may try the 10/40 next time because of that. I would also go with 20W50 if i used amsoil so that in case thgis is true it would retain a reasonable viscosity.

This is all from things i read online, mostly if not all at a motor oil forum. True or not, whenever there is no way to get a definitive answer i always err on the safe side. I doubt amsoil could ever be considered a bad oil, so i still recommend it. But like I said, they are both good so i err on the safe side and in the process save money and can get it locally .

I just did the 24k oil change on my blue + white, and didn't see any problems with the oil. I have used M1 10/40 the whole time, mainly because it is available at my local auto-parts store less than a mile away.

I'll be using the M1-10w40 and K&N filter. Both are at AAP right down the street....way too easy.
