Yes,I did run a a regular Avon Storm in the 200/50 size,but it only lasted 8000 miles,which was better then the Metz,but still no bargain.And yes again,I used a second Avon,except this one was the Storm II Ultra,but in a smaller 180/55 size as alittle experiment I was tryin.Then at 1400 miles,I hit some debris in the road which punctured and destroyed that tire.So I then put on my back up,also an Ultra and in the same smaller size,and so far,it's been 3400 miles and still has 6/32 of tread left.It had 8/32 when new.

Now if this tire doesn't give me any better mileage,then I have one more tire I will try.And if that doesn't do the trick,then hopefully by then,the tire people will make a CT in the size I'm lookin for and I WILL use it.

Now I'm not sayin that a CT is safer,but what I am sayin that it will run 80-90,000 miles and for half of what we're payin for one of these over rated "EXPENSIVE" MC radials.

The average guy will only drive 5000 miles or so a year.But there are guys like me who drive 20,000 miles or better a year and that's when it gets really expensive.Now I have grown fond of the Bird,but not the tires.And if I can't find somethin that will last,then it's by,by Birdy and I'll buy somethin else that does NOT use these **** tires.But again,that's me and my opinion on this subject. The ultra is i believe NOT dual compound like the ultra 2. So that may be why you only got 8k. If i get 8k i will surely get another over the metz, but unless i get 9 or 10k I like you will not stop looking for better. 10k would be great, as it would give me more than a years use. (bike had 17k at the 2 year mark)

Mornin Daz.The tire I put on is the Storm II Ultra and does the the dual compound.We'll just have to wait and se how far she goes. Dave!!!

Just switched from a Diesel 300D to a Gas 260E (with 240K Miles and looks and runs like new) and what a difference-your uncle is right, would not have thought it. Main reason was that diesel here in the USA is much higher than gas. Gas 260E is smoother, faster, quieter than the oil burner. Diesel technology is coming along and the Audi R1 shows what is possible.

There is compelling evidence from many types of bikes that the Darkside Car Tire really works and you won't die a fiery death. I would have to try it myself on the Thunderbird to see how much worse the 'Bird corners.

The saying keep the rubber side down means a lot to me. I would rather have my long life than the tire having a long life. The riders who do 20-30-70K a year have a right to bitch and look for answers, be it a different tire or (yikes) different bike. My Honda Pacific Coast got 25K on it's Metzler 880's but it was not a Thunderbird but a Thundertortoise (no offense meant to tortoises) in performance and handling.

So I hope someone can go and test out the darkside for the rest of us and report back. Science is built on proving a theory with facts. I'm just not the one who wants to do the testing and I'm really happy with my super sticky Metzlers on the bike, especially in the rain. More so when I realize I'm riding way beyond my skill level keeping up with my friends on corners and I'm way to hot and have to just pour on gas and keep counter steering and trust the bike (sparks fly and floorboards grind but the bike is glued to the road) and what a bike!

Unfortuately, at the moment,I'm temporarily embarrassed as I'm out of the riding schene.I screwed up my left knee real good over the weekend doin a roofing job and have all I can do to walk,let alone ride my scooter.Hopefully,it will only be for a very short period of time.The months of Sept,Oct,and Nov, are the best riding months of the year in this part of the country.And I'm not very happy about this inconvenience at all, but there's nothin I can do about it either.In other words,I not putin any mileage on my Avon StormII Ultra.My appologies gentlemen. Dave!!!

Cold in L.A. *cough cough* Careful Daz you will risk the wrath of the whole forum!!! We are in California, and you in southern at that! I will say that October and parts of Nov are by far the best riding in the North Bay. Typically we have coastal fog that plagues us in the summer months mornings and the last 2 years it has been especially bad thanks to a stronger than normal La Nina`, so they are claiming. At any rate, our mornings start off at 50 some degrees, warm in the day and quickly down into the 50's and 60's again in the evening - it really sucks because you have to fill up your saddle bags with different layers for a ride because it is normal to hit a 30-40 degree temperature swing in a single ride if you include the coast. BUT - in October and November the fog goes away - temps can still hit the 80's but no fog, no large temp swings and it truly is the best riding. Last Oct and Nov were MUCH better than anything May-Aug has offered so far this year. SIGH. Hoping for a real summer next year.

Dave sorry you hurt your knee. I find that puttering in my garage and drinking my favorite beer tends to make my, well, everything feel better.

RED - my cousin just sold his Honda PC. We teased him that it really was just a large scooter with a last minute afterthought to put on some footpegs. I have to say it wasn't a bad machine at all to ride and the front brakes were truly phenomenally good! But when we went riding together it was all he could do to keep up with me if I started pushing at all - and with his wife on the back - well I just had to let them lead because there was no hope of him staying in sight.

I am running the Dunlop dual-compound right now on the rear, and once I have finished with it I will give a nice little report on it for everyone as well. I have about 4k on it right now and it is still looking pretty good.

Went through Deal's Gap this past weekend and the edges got nice and toasty... I felt them afterwards and they were warm and quite sticky, so the dual compound was definitely getting put to work!
