final word from Avon

The guy from the UK plant finally got back from vacation and looked into thier "plan" for Tbird tires. Looks like they're doing nothing in the way of creating a matched set for us, just recommending the tires we already know will fit....storm ultra 2 rear, cobra front. I'm digging the storm rear, but not sure if i'll be going with the cobra because i don't want that [email protected] snakeskin pattern on the sidewall. I prefer matching tires at least cosmetically if not in all ways. But i need a better look and i have yet to see a full on pic of the tire on a bike. Anyways, here is his response...

Quote:
Our recommended fitment is 120/70ZR19 Cobra front and 200/50ZR17 Storm 2 Ultra rear. 36psi front and 42psi rear.
Thats it ! No explanations or anything, just that. Oh well...

Avon

The good part is that at least you got a reply. Seems there is not the market there for developing a matched pair. The front Metzeler is not much of a problem for wear, but the back, getting 5,000 miles or so here is more than enough to use the 200/50/ZR17 Avon. For the time being, I am keeping my Metzeler on front. Would like some wear information on the Cobra, there are a few guys with that on their front. Probably have not been able to wear the sucker out yet, though.

same here....looking for cobra wear report. But also a full sidewall pic on a bike to see how cheezy that pattern does or doesn't look.

Well, this kinda sucks. I know some will think i'm nit picking, but i really hate the look of the cobra sidewall as in this pic the avon rep sent me upon my request for a pic that shows it better. It even has a snake head cut into the tread area. my question is, we know having a normal sidewall and none of this snake [email protected] that no one is going to buy something else because they want a snakeskin sidewall. But we already know some may NOT but it because it does have that. The question then is W_T_F were they thinking?
