Leather Tank Cover

Does anyone use the leather tank cover PN A9528034? I am wanting to know if the buckle is functional or is it cosmetic and there is some sort of velcro or other quick release under it. Also have there been any paint scratching issues?
Thanks!

The buckle does work. It's a classic looking buckle that covers a quick release; pretty common these days for classic looks, but modern ease of use. I don't use mine anymore and it's now just sitting in the basement...it scratched the absolute hell out of my tank. It's not uncommon for covers to do some scratching, but I couldn't believe what it did to my tank. However, I blame the paint more than the cover (mine's a Haze Red 1700, see my thread "Weak Paint!"). The only way I would ever even consider using it (or anything like it) again would be if I put some of that clear 3M film on the tank everywhere the cover touched it.

However, if you still decide you want one, let me know; it's in good condition as it was only on the bike for 2 or 3 weeks and I'm sure I could be convinced to part with it cheap.

Better living through chemistry.

I bought one a couple of months ago, but have never installed it. On the underside I felt some heavy nylon stitching coming through in hard sharp lumps where it has bunched when being sewn. I decided not to use it bcause I knew it would scratch the hell out of my tank (more that it already is). Unfortunately I bought it overseas (half the price), so couldn't just send it back.

Thanks for the input Simon and Tbird. You have convinced me to pass on the Triumph tank cover and keep looking for something else.

Don't use a tank cover unless you use a protective film under it (as suggested) or glue something soft to the underside. It will scratch your tank.

Before I put mine on I give it a good coat and rub with dubin which made the leather nice and soft and somewhat water resistant.

Question WHERE to buy Legend tank cover or bra?

I appreciate the comments on putting something under a Tank protector, but my Post is not producing the real results I was looking for....I have NOT been able to find a Tank Protector or Bra for a Legend. Anybody know a source who makes leather or codura tank covers? I see lots of products, but the Legend is missing from all the lists......?
