T-bird whistle

Hi all,
New forum member with a new T-bird. I notice a high-pitched whistle when I start up, and still hear it at idle even after everything's warmed up. I noticed the same thing on a different T-bird I demo'd last fall. Any idea what it is, and if there's anything to do about it? Couldn't find any threads on this in the forum, but apologies if I'm re-hashing old news.

I think mine did that when new but it soon disappears. It may still be there a bit, but if it is it's too low now too hear w/o listening for it. Don't know what it is but probably something to do with the valve train. Maybe the chain rubbing against the tensioner or such. One thing everyone will tell you about the Tbird tho is that when new they make a ton of weird noises and they all go away eventually. Mine sounded like a bucket of bolts at first and now is quiet. the only thing you need to do anything about is a chirping sound when moving, mainly under acceleration. Thats the belt being too loose and it seems to be common with new birds as the belts stretches when new. Mine did that from new. i adjusted it and it went away for a few weeks then returned. I adjusted it a 2nd time and it never returned. they just need time for their initial stretching out.

Thanks for the advice - I guess every 'Bird sings a bit. I've been reading the forum for a while now, and it really whetted my appetite until my bike arrived. I'll listen for the belt chirp.

Installing the Big Bore Kit effectively does away with the Triumph Whistle. I actually kind of miss it.

Other bikes: 2005 Thruxton with 904 Wiseco big bore kit, BC stage one cams, CR carbs & BC Predators, 2010 Husaberg FE390, 2010 Triumph Thunderbird 1700, 2009 Kawaskai ZX-6R, 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 1000.

Question Still whistling...

Hi again,
I'm still getting a very high-pitched constant-tone whistle from the Bird, with hundreds of miles on the bike. It's most prominent with my ear close to the triple-clamp; definitely not down low by the engine or transmission, but definitely audible just sitting in the seat. It is most prominent at idle, it may go away at higher revs (can't hear it over the engine). Only happens with the motor running. I originally thought it was from air flow through the filters, but that's not at the triple clamp. Then I thought it might be a bad capacitor - but only with the motor running, and not the electrics?

Called the guys at the local dealership, no help. Anyone else have this? Any additional ideas?

I have always thought that the high pitch whine was the fuel pump. It is about the same pitch as what happens when I first turn on the ignition before starting the bike.

I assume it's one of the "normal" sounds the Tbird makes. It was there on the demo bike i had last June for a whole weekend (I put the first km on it), and on my own it has always been there, too.

just got my bike yesterday and can hear it as well, depending what position my head is in because of my helmet. Likely the fuel pump as said. A friend of mine has a Vulcan and it makes the same sound; his dealer told him it was the fuel pump.
