Glad to hear that you didn't let your HD buddies pressure you into staying with the "in crowd"! Best part of owning a Triumph is not following the common path... Recently attended the MotoGP event in Indianapolis and took great pride in being part of a small group of Triumphs among literally thousands of HDs. :D

Love that quote - can I borrow it from time to time?

I work with a guy that had a 1989 HD Softail - readily admitted the Triumph's and Victory's he rode with out performed. But he was HD and that was it, period. Then it was stolen - I said great chance to go try a TBird - nope, shopped around and used his insurance money to buy a Road King - 6 months later it was stolen, so I said go already and test ride a Thunderbird - his reply, I'm afraid I would like it too much. And what is the harm in that? Well if he bought one all his buddies would disown him because it wasn't a HD - so he bought another Road King and is complaining that it has a governor on the RPM's and is the slowest bike he has owned yet. But by gum - it's a Harley! AND he paid more for his used HD than he could have gotten a brand new 1600 SE.

Great read! One day when my VStar needs replacing the TBird is top on my list.

I purchased my Bonnie from the same dealer, not as good an experience, but love the bike. If ever your Tbird is in need of riding company, my Bonnie is willing and ready, just drop me a line!

Welcome Tallboy67! It'd been a long time since I'd ridden ANY bike...so I had the joy of thorough research, and visiting many dealerships around the Dallas/Ft Worth area; and checking out every criuser I could sit on, and possibly test ride. I, like so many out there now, bought what I liked. And haven't looked back...no regrets (although I may add to my stable, a R3R at some point, as I like that bike as well). The only issue I had with my bike was the night driving head-light. But I fixed that with some simple ingenuity. For me, it's now perfect. Congratulations on the new purchase. Ride safe!

Finally got around to reading this...cool stuff. After first becoming a rider last year, I just wanted to learn. I knew, as I was girding up my loins with a Honda Shadow, that I didn't want to go HD...at all.

Not because their bikes did not appeal to me, but because EVERYONE get's a HD. Or at least it seems that way.

When I test rode the Tbird at a Triumph Demo Day earlier this year I decided right then and there that it was going to be the bike that I graduated to.

It's an awesome bike that I look forward to having for years to come.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of crap HD owners put up with from their dealer's service dept. $200 reflashes. Poor quality, overpriced maintenance. The general "We're doing you a favor by working on your bike at all" attitude. I get these complaints from current (& likely future) HD owners. It's the biker equivelant of Battered Wife syndrome, "I can't help it, I love my HD. It's my fault, I provoked them." They just keep enabling their abuser. While I don't know if I'd rate my Triumph dealer as spectacular, I've never left there pissed off.

Welcome to the club tallboy, you've confirmed my impression of HD guys. I love to ride and bought my 1st Triumph (America) in 2007. Just took it in for a new clutch and 28K service. Also, bought Triumph No 2 (2011 T-Bird) and so far it's been great also. If you love to ride, these are great bikes.
