timwu, here in Portugal I use 98 (91 in the states) in my 94 D12. Although the bike's book says 95, I feel it just runs better. Also, I've been told that with a 12:1 compression ratio, a higher octane should be used.
timwu, I generally use 93 (Texas skips 91) octane. It's pretty hot here in the summer (F95-100+) and I doubt I'd hear any deto'g, if it did. I imagine it's just as hot there. More a feel good thing than anything else.
Like any EFI bike, although the fuel sensors will adjust to suit whatever fuel you put in it you'll get the cleanest burn and easiest ride for the valves if you use the highest octane fuel available. I get better economy from high octane fuel too, so it's a win-win.
