Hello. First post. First British motorcycle. Yesterday, as I was heading out the door to wander the Oregon Vintage Motorcycle show, my wife handed me a check and said "Don't come home with out a motorcycle" So... being obedient and aware of our meager bank balance I pushed a '67 TR6C (DU63103) home. If the picture posts you'll see I might be in over my head, but with you're help maybe I'll succeed.
Some questions:
1. Recommend a good book? Triumph Twin Restoration: Roy Bacon - what else?
2. Fresh oil (sitting 10+years). Drain and flush with something?
3. This bike will run without a battery, yes? There seems to be no zener diode... certainly needs coils, etc. Where to start there?
4. Where do *you* buy parts?

Thanks for your kind help - I'll be talking with you again, Jon D>

Bear in mind I`m in the UK.
1. You will certainly need a good spares book. 1967 Unit 650cc Parts catalogue
http://www.tri-corengland.com/acatalog/1963_to_1982_Unit_650-750cc_parts_catalogues.html
And a workshop manual
http://www.tri-corengland.com/acatalog/Triumph_Workshop_Manuals.html
Haynes?
2. Drain the oil and clean all filters, clean the oil pump and the oil pressure relief valve.
3. Why not fit an electronic ignition system and regulator complete with coils. I used Sparx http://www.tri-corengland.com/acatalog/SPARX_products.html
But there are many others, Boyer etc.....
4. Where are you located? If yer in the US, others here can help.

1) You will definitely need factory Manual and Parts Book (Tri-cor)
Haynes Manual useful as it covers the more basic stuff
Bacon good for the "restoration" bits
Hughie Hancox has a good DVD for engine rebuild (vintagebike.co.uk)

2) Drain existing oil cold from Engine, Gearbox and Primary Drive leaving for 24 hrs to drain turning over the engine occasionally - but dont start it.
Refill all three using a "modern" 20w/50 (with detergent) for the engine- as per manual for gearbox (EP80/90) and primary drive. Run engine up to temp, turn off engine and drain engine, refill with "classic" 20w/50 (non detergent).
Change oil again after 500 miles and then ever 1500 miles.

3) Most people change to electronic ignition as basically maintenance free but original electrical system fine if maintained correctly.

4) UK Tricor, Reg Allan www.reg-allan-london.co.uk

Thanks for getting me started

Gentlemen, Thank you so much for your help. Having links included that point to what you're talking about is very helpful indeed.

I'll check back periodically to see if others have added more, but what you've given will put me on the right foot.

Thanks again, Jon D>

PaulZ suggested a 3-phase sparz setup. If I run that, do I need a battery as well?
