im looking to put some new tyres on me 955 in the next couple of weeks, the question is what do i go for? there michelin pilots on at the moment which are good tyres but i ride all year round and would like something that can offer the opportunity of a little off road fun.Ive been looking at the trail attacks but ive read an awful lot about front end wobbles when fitted..has anyone had this problem? Ive also been looking at Tourances...are these any good? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I ran three sets of Trail Attacks on my 06 and found them to be really good on road, not too brilliant off road and never had any front end problems at all.
Last August I fitted a pair of Anakee 2s for a weekends riding in the Galloway Forest and found them to be very stable on the forest tracks and as good as the Trail Attacks on the road, time will tell if the claimed increase in mileage is true. ;)

Can not go wrong with Tourances. I have both trail attacks and tourances. The tourances are better on dirt roads. Equivalent on tarmac IMO.

Hi Flik,

I've always stuck with the Anakee. For what I do on the road, I find them really good. For my few jaunts onto forest and gravel tracks I find them ok, but have nothing to compare them to. IMHO, whatever you've got on, you ride to your capabilities and the conditions.

As for mileage, here's what I got out of my Anakees (miles):

Anakee 1:

Front 10,670

Rear 5,280

Anakee 2:

Front 13,521 (including 6,000 mile euro trip with all weight on back end and riding like an old granny)

Rear 5,390
Rear 5,744
Rear 8,464 (including the same 6,000 mile euro trip riding like an old granny)
Rear 4,818

So I found that the claimed extra durability and mileage from the Anakee 2's is a load of bollox !!

p.s. - Yes, I know it's sad that I keep a log of my tyres :SadSigh

+1 for the Tourances ( mark 1 ). I found them to be a great all rounder with good mileage rates too.

I personally didn't like the Anakees. I found they were too squirmy during spirited road riding. I think the sidewalls are a bit too soft allowing flex. Maybe they just needed more air ?? :)

Not really Graeme, I keep a log of everything I buy/fit on my bike as well. Sometimes I add it all up and think I could have bought a new bike with the money I have spent! ;)

Shinko????

Anyone tried the Shinko 705's????

Need a new front *(been runnin Anakees) on my 2005 Girlie, but I can replace both front and back with Shinko for almost the price of 1 front Anakee.

But am just not convinced they will hold up to the mighty Tiger. I have heard Wee Strom owners comment they are great.....anyone here know anything about them??????

I will throw Heidenau K76 into the mix. I haven't used them, but would like feedback from anyone who has. They are made in Germany like my favoured Tourances. Regarding the Shinko's; do they do an 'H' speed rating?

No "H" looks like "L"..........

Well I ordered em today. WIll see how they hold up. I figure a set for the cost of 1 front is great deal, if they last a year or so I am ahead of the game. :) Hopefully income situation will improve by then and I won't have to break cheap......but who knows might like em better than the high $ ones.

Thanks for all the info.

It's always interesting what comes up in tyre threads, but just how close do we come to our limits, and the tyres limits, when we're riding ??

I tend to stick to rural roads with plenty of twists and turns and changes of speed and I ride pretty quickly, but I have no idea how close to the tyres limits of grip I get. Nor do I want to find out !!

I think we all have a subconcious safety margin built into our riding, so we stay in our relative comfort zones

I wonder if the different choices of tyre we have for our Tigers really make that much of a difference when we're riding ?? I don't know 'cause I've only ever used Anakee's.

What about the rest of you, how quickly do you ride, and how close to the limit do you get, and does the type of tyre you use make a difference ??

Hi Graeme, id like to think im a capable safe rider, ive just come off michelin Pilots onto the trail attacks and my tiger handled rieally well.I reckon we all like to think theres a little bit of Rossi or Shwantz inside of us trying to get out but deep down we all know our own limits.Lets face it someones back tyre wear mark speaks volumes.....but who really cares as long as your enjoying yourself and have a smile on your face :)

I have two Tigers, one with Tourances - my principal ride - and one with Shinkos. The Shinkos are on the bike that is usually ridden by my daughter or used when friends are in town or the other Tiger is down. I love the way the Shinkos feel, they just ride so much softer than the Tourances! I don't push the bike on the tarmac and rarely take it off road, but those tires feel so good! I got them based on price alone, as mentioned they can be bought, mounted, balanced, and get new tubes for the price of a single unmounted Tourance. Did I tell you how I love how they feel? They're a pretty cool looking tire. too!
