I need to get some sort of little tool bag, but have no idea which one to get, what works best, and where to put the sucka.

What do you use and where do you put it? As always, links or photos would be most appreciated.

Just don't make the STUPID, DUMB, BRAIN DEAD mistake that I did before I got my Hepco Becker bags. I put a small leather tool bag in front of my engine area. I thought there was enough air clearance to not affect the can of Fix-A-Flat I had in there too. WRONG! It blew a whole in the leather bag as the top exploded spewing millions of drops of that chemical all over my garage, my bike and my wife's scooter. Took forever to clean up.

At first I had my Saddleman tool bag mounted down low like Clintd (Demps) but it rubbed the paint off.

Then I mounted it on the fork tubes under the light and it rubbed a "shine" into the brushed finish on the tubes.

Now it's laying on the floor alongside my Speedmaster until I figure a place to mount it that won't annoy the Phantom.

Bought a cheap one and it also hangs from the footbar. I was looking at the new Triumph brand bags from my local dealer. Wow, the quality is impressive, but also the price. Something that fancy and costly, I coudn't hang that so close to the road & grime.

In regards to the paint getting worn, what I have done to stop this is I have put some Duct or racing tape around the tubing before putting the tool bag on. You can't notice it in the photos as it was done after the photos were taken. That is one possible way around the rubbing.

Here's a pic with ChuckofTahoe standing next to his T100 and my America . It's just a simple tool bag that is long enough to hold two tire irons. I had to repair the front tube when my tire went flat on that trip so it paid off having a large bag.

Thanks for all the responses. But alas, it is as I feared. The Speedmaster/TBA crowd has some good options, but no easy answers for us standard Bonnie owners. I previously had reviewed CYNCRZR's instructions for the NARK tool carrier, but didn't really want to go to that much work to keep a few simple tools with my bike at all times. And I didn't want to drop the dough for a Corbin Smuggler to carry them. I reckon I'll be taking a trip to Home Despot this evening for the NARK tool rig.

SCCTrim, I love that sweet Bonnie black of yours . . . .

While it's a Saturday's worth o' work if you have a NARK already, it's not like there's any riding being done with this freekin cold spell, so hopefully you have a heated garage and some cold ones.

Like loxpump, I use the space left in the lower part of the NARKed airbox for my tools. It provides enough space for the aftermart Triumph toolkit, an additional spanner roll and one or two minor items.
As for the best place on an unNARKed bonnie, I used to fit my tool-roll between the back of the saddle and the tail light - much easier if you have a grabrail mind.

Keef,

How do you secure your tools in the airbox space? Did you have a set-up similar to CYNCRZR's, or something similar? I'm tryin' to save myself some work here . . . .
bsaltrat,

I just cut down the stock airbox with a dremmel to make room for the K&N filters. When I did this I also cut away the ribs on which the stock filter used to sit, to allow more room in the lower part of the airbox which I retained as storage space. The part where the snorkel used to fit is where my tool rolls go. I haven't fitted anything to keep the rolls in place as they seem fairly secure just as they sit where the old filter used to. However, I've been thinking of making smoe sort of canvas or leather lid which would attach by means of press-studs/poppers where the three threaded holes are - either that or something similar with a zip.

You might find something helpful in the "Engine & Drive - Suck" or the "Seat & Frame" sections on the Twin Mod Links Page.

bsaltrat,
There's quite a variety of production and DIY NARKs out there - no doubt each one will have a most suitable solution to tool storage.
As mentioned, a fair amount of tools can be stored in the old filter housing of a home-NARKed airbox. I thought I'd post a couple of pics of what I keep in mine.

Left roll = 6-14mm ring & open spanners
Right roll = tyre lever, plyers, 19mm combi spanner, plug spanner, screw driver set, alan keys, open spanners, 24mm ratchet, insulation tape.

Here they are rolled up, and stowed away in the old airbox

I also keep a telescopic bicycle pump, a puncture repair kit and swiss army plyers in my tank bag...
... along with my mobile phone, of course.
