Hi,

I'm dropping in coming from the Sprint forum to ask a question on behalf of a buddy of mine. He's interested in the longetivity of the old 855 motor. He asks if he should expect serious mechanical problems from a well maintained '93 (in the title I've put '92 by mistake) Tiger motor with 85.000 km on the clock.

Is there something in particular he should look at?

A couple key words to search for are 'sprag clutch' and DAR...they're the biggies. I've also read about pesky electrical gremlins and other things that plague any older bike. But the way I understand it is that the motor itself should last a very long time. One guy I know has well over 100k on his 885...(I don't believe there was an 855).

Good luck.

Thanks for your response. Yes 885 it is, my mistake. May I ask what's a DAR?

Edited: Never mind, I found out. 'Dreaded Alternator Rattle'. What's the cure for it?

I haven't experienced DAR myself...but supposedly there's a new style shaft that has a through bolt...or a bolt on each end? Something like that...I believe once the new style bolt is put in the problem won't come back.

Someone may correct me on that, though.
