All good on Easter Sunday

It was 70*f on Easter Sunday. I replaced the timing-cover oil seal on the 73 TR7. Runs good, sounds good, no leaks. On my other 73 TR7 desert sled, I replaced the needle jet with a 105 for my Colorado altitude 6000 ft. After the set-screw came loose and spit out one of the glas-pak inserts on my Bud Ekins style high pipes, the bike ran even better but very loud. I think I'll raise the clip a notch. Old Reliable, my 72 TR6 started !st kick after a winter's slumber, and ran well on a short ride. All is well; DRINK BEER. I have a spare cylinder head for my T 150 that I am rebuilding for a quick swap to cure oil burning. It's only been 7K mi;les since the rebuild. so greater care is being taken on the valve guides. I do run the P*ss out of it. I want this to be a 1-day swap, so I haven't looked inside the old head yet. I may follow Mr Pete's recommendation on chamfering the guides as opposed to the current retro-fitted intake seals. Bob

Reading posts of members taking their bikes out of mothballs for the winter and firing them up for the first time is just about as enjoyable as those rays of sunshine that come in thru the bedroom window every morning these past few weeks.

Dave, that's a nifty looking mount for your camera. I've been thinking about making one for the upcoming Motogiro, but I first have to get a better camera. My 5MP Sony takes great pics but is too old to find a decent memory card with any size to it.

I did take my first ride of the season today. But it was not on one of my Triumphs. I'm ringing out the 305 Scrambler in prep for the Motogiro in a month. But, the T140V will be the next to get her battery and fired up for spring. Maybe I'll even spring for a new camera so I can video tape her waking up and post it here.

Nice to see everyone's bike coming out of hibernation. I guess all our mates in Oz and NZ can just sit back and watch, since they never get to experience the annual rebirth of motorcycling living in paradise.

Happy Spring everyone!

regards,
Rob

springtime awakening

I did spring maintneance on my 73 T 150:
Lube and tighten drive chain; adjust rear brake
Lube clutch cable and tachometer and speedometer cores
Top off battery electrolyte and charge battery
Restore proper tire pressure
Tighten all fasteners
Grease swing arm pivot
Dust, clean, buff and wipe as needed
Checked lights and horn
Check oil levels; engine and tranny
Ride until winter gas is mostly gone; refill
(Actually, we rode to a local bar via the back roads. The curves still had lots of traction sand from last week's snowstorm and it was cold with snow at higher elevations)

Put doublesided tape in the guage holders to stop them from spin'n (I think Snake's suggestion??). Anyway, into the double digits C. today so I was feeling extra saucy and started the bike like this before my ride. This one's for Plewsey ole' buddy. Have a great Spring Opener, Rats!

Not enough Loctite

On the way to work this morning, cruising at about 100km/hr when all of a sudden my 6T started sounding like a Harley.

Stopped to investigate, found that the right hand silencer was lying in the freeway about 100m back. Attached to it was the footrest hanger. The two bolts that secure the footrest hanger to the frame were nowhere to be found.

It wasn't too badly damaged, until an unspeakable blind stupid wretch in a four wheel drive ran over it. Trucks with a payload of 40 tonnes could manage to straddle it, learner drivers in bubble cars could avoid it, but our hero runs right over it.

It is repairable, but cosmetically it's not good. I'll pick one up in August when I'm in Devon.

So wheeled my bike on the side of the road in the reverse direction to the traffic to get back (downhill, thankfully) to the nearest exit.
Started it, rode to the lights at the end of the exit ramp, then it cut out. Couldn't find neutral, wouldn't start, pushed across the road, found I had forgotten to turn on the fuel.

Turned on the tap, away we went. Getting back on to the freeway was a noisy affair, but I got home ok. Had to take the '95 to work. See, wifey, that's why I can't sell one of my bikes.

Bummer on the muffler, Kid. But give the guy in the FWD a break. He was probably texting his girlfriend and never saw the muffler.

JCB, never knew BSA made a Rocket with Gold Star name attached to it. Now you are going to make me go do my research.

regards,

Rob

Started the Tiger for the first time this year and since my leg operation (kicked with left leg and 'bike on sidestand, a bit awkward but do-able!). Great to hear it running again and to squirt up and down on the road outside my house.
Now, I need an MOT test and a tax disc and 2013, here we come !!! :)

Glad to see everyone is getting out and about!
Had my toy down and out for a bit. Had intake adapters I designed 3D printed. Fit well, and mounted up, unfortunately didn't like near 40 year old motorcycle vibration and stress cracked admitting air.
Looked into CNC them, wanted damn near $1000 to do it. #@$%^$#!!! Well nothing for it, but made them by hand. Not bad for using a bandsaw, router and dremel. They work, check out the pic for proof (wouldn't let me attach the vid). :)
Now on to dialing them in. Flow is already so vastly improved that revs out twice as fast as it did with the single carb, but too "fat" after 1/2 throttle. Will have to drop down main sizes and then fettle them the rest of the way. Shops closed till Tues, so have to wait... I HATE waiting! :p
