Okay TR, since the bike is clean and really too cold for a sane man to ride, it's time to unbolt those damn silver rear fender braces, paint them black and mount them to the inside of the fender.

You will thank me when it's done.

Regards,
Rob

I know, I know. You're right. This weekend's forecast is snow so I may just do that. May be too cold to rattle can them though. We'll see. I've gotten so used to them like that I don't even see them anymore. Thanks Snake. Cheers from Canada.

Okay, how about a compromise? -10* C. in the garage this morning so I didn't want to pull off the rear wheel to paint the supports. Plus it's sunny out and turning out to be a "rather ride than wrench" day anyway.

So, I tucked the supports under the fender. Had to put the wrenches on the rad halfway through because they were freezing my fingers (job too finicky to use gloves). I put a line of black tape on the chrome braces to picture how they will look painted in the future. Not bad. Hope this satisfies your OCD temporarily, Snake. Thanks for the push. Cheers from Canada.

P.S. DOn't look at my electrical. That's gonna wait till Spring!

Todays effort(s). Back wheel off. Removed rear master cylinder which was completely stuffed. Leaking rusty fluid. No wonder it wasn't working. Rest of it cleaned up o.k. so only have to buy the cylinder. Fiddled with the norton external oil filter and managed to get it mounted sideways so it will clear the rear aforementioned hydraulics and not have folded hoses. It's now time for a shower and then to the local for a few ice cold schooners as my reward. A reasonably successful day.

Well done, TR! As for your wiring it looks like my hair when I get out of bed in the morning. I see nothing wrong with it.

Gotta love wrenches on the radiator (or as Dave pointed out, paint storage device). I fired up the propane and kero heaters in the garage and then went in to eat lunch. It was 16F out there. I agree that it sucks when the tools are too painful to hold. Installed my new chain and 2 new seals. Looks like tomorrow is primary day.

Rob

You have lowered your standards. RR. My bike may not be the prettiest out there, but it manages to always get me home despite my lack of pampering. Please post a pic of your fine bike in the 650 OIF Picture Thread. I have not looked upon that gem in a while.

Thanks for letting me off the hook on the wiring, Snake. ;)

Figures!!!

So, I recently became the proud owner of a 67 Tr6. My buddy picked it up for me from an estate sale for $200. Yes it is still posible to find deals! It was all choppered out and missing a ton of parts. It looked pretty ratty and had been sitting for many years. I had no background on it, not even mileage, so I decided to do a complete engine rebuild as a precaution. The deeper and deeper I got into the engine, the more obvious it seemed that engine had a fresh rebuild before it was put into storage.

Today I removed the sludge trap, and it was pretty close to completely empty. I mic-ed a few parts like the crank journals and they are still stock. I really lucked out with this bike, except no title (which I need to figure out).

Rusty Jugs?

Actually, not so rusty...very good in fact.

Took a spare set of +0.040 jugs to be cleaned up in the media blaster and get them ball honed by a local privateer shop.

Got them back and they measure within tolerance for being M stamped at +0.040". Less than 0.002" between all measurements (6 points measured per cylinder, 12 in all).

Noticed that the timing side cyl has a visible discoloration ring around the bottom of the cyl where it looks like the piston and rings sat in one spot for too long.

It is sooooo nearly imperceptible to the touch that I swear if I close my eyes I almost can't feel it (or I'm wishing it away!)

Don't want to bore these jugs if I don't have to. May check with a local machinist to see if he has any suggs.

I actually got to take a decent ride today, 40+ degrees and sunshine. After feeling trapped inside by the miserable cold weather of late, it was fantastic to be out on the open road.

I got to really see the difference getting rid of the closed back stock air filters, the Unilfilters for the stock airbox today, big difference in mid range power the best $30 I've ever spent in terms of "bang for your buck".

Why are these Triumphs such fun to ride? I have faster, smoother, more comfortable and better handling bikes, but this 73 Tiger is just has something you can't put your finger on. I had a meeting I had to go to this afternoon, it took a lot of self discipline to turn around and head home at the appropriate time, I just wanted to keep going and going :)

Took another ride today, had to look at a house I was thinking of buying to remodel and it seemed a shame to waste all that fuel going in any of the 4 wheel options ;)

A little cool at around 35 degrees, but still very enjoyable. If the weather was warmer, I might just have kept riding and still not be home :)
