British Conclave

We rode down to Arvada to attend the Colorado Conclave of British cars and bikes. Rick took his Trident, his son on Rick's Bonneville, Ed on his Atlas, James rode in comfort on his Road King, Rick S on his Gold Wing, and me on my 72 TR6 after a late start with a flat tire. Phantom Canyon members Bob and Bill took 1st and 3rd prizes. Another member set a record at Bonneville and showed his 125 BSA. (the record was somewhat less than a ton). Bob

I did that but for some reason they never stay on the bolt?
Poor guy probably feels ignored when you set out working on your bike. :(

Replaced headlight with 7" sealed halogen bulb H2064 this morning (Thanks Road Racer). Going to test tonight. Hopefully better light than stock.
I rode out early to put some more break-in miles on the bike and stopped off at a neighborhood lawn sale. Picked these up because they reminded me of the ones I would always lose when turning my head to change lanes on the highway back in the 70's. Very retro like the bike and only 25 cents too! Cheapest thing I've bought for the bike to date! ;)

Oh, almost forgot...I raised the shocks from the lowest to the middle setting (ride was too spongy). The firmer shocks improved the ride considerably.

Went on a ride for cancer today. There were about 150 bikes(mostly Harleys) but only two Triumphs, mine and another guy I've seen around town. At the end of the run, evryone was huddled around our bikes.

Good on you Werner, riding for a good cause. A couple of snappy looking Trumpy's there, any wonder they got a lot of attention. RR

Yesterday my “77 Bonnie on a Budget” got put away for a winters rest after giving me a full season of enjoyment. It lived up to everything I was hoping it would be and ran like a top. Thanks for all the help I got here last winter while putting it together.

Yesterday, my old girl and I participated in a fundraiser ride for Emily Keyes, iluvuguys.org/emilys_parade.html
and Columbine High School. Emily a 16 year old student at the time was tragically killed 6 years ago by a deranged individual who took her and other young ladies hostage at her high school. The ride was attended by thousands of 2 wheel enthusiasts although the vast majority were HD's. Everyone enjoyed the ride on a beautiful Colorado day up into the foothills. Although the ride up was at times a doddeling affair because of the thousands of motorcycles and having to deal with 4 wheel motorists on mountain roads...the ride home was certainly worth the frustration from the ride up. I was amazed at how many HD's broke down on the ride up...I must have passed 20 or more riders on the road side staring at their bikes. My old girl performed magnificently... the ride home was a spirited ride and I thoroughly enjoyed flying by the heavy iron in the twisties as I gave them a nod.

ride-in fly-in drive-in

We attended the Antique Aircraft Association's fly-in adjacent to our club meeting. The pilots were doing their version of wheelies by traversing the entire grass runway while on one wheel of their old tail-draggers. We're still waiting for the trees to change colors to schedule our last club ride of the year. Pilots, riders, and drivers discussed gasoline, fabrication, tires, certification, and other items of common interest. Bob

This evening I just finished dyeing my home built seat black.
I made it from an old brown jacket and a hardwood base. Not the best looking but I didn't like the small solo saddle as it showed too much frame.
This is one of many tries, probably not the last.
Since its a collections of bits I can get away with almost anything I guess.

Love those small "army" saddle bags...Can I ask where you got them?

thanks!

Sprayed the final coat of paint on the frame, small parts, and fenders.
Then noticed St Bernard hair floating all through the air landing on everything!
I left my coveralls on the ceramic tile overnight and she must have slept on them overnight.
:0
So now I'll have to sand and repaint everything tomorrow. What a mess!

After walking away and drinking many cups of coffee and cleaning my coveralls and not leaving them on the floor by the back door (like my wife always tells me not to) I went out and looked over the damage and it's not as bad as I first thought. Only a few things need to be touched up, plus one front frame tube.

Now if my engine parts would only arrive.

Straight from my buddy:
I used a self etching primer over the bare metal, broken paint layers and bodywork. Then applied 2 coats of Wandabase HS polyester basecoat and topcoated with 2 more coats of Wanda 8100 Urethane clearcoat. All automotive paints require that you use a respirator to protect from inhaling harmful fumes/vapors.

Oh, he's a painter. I thought that was a paint booth in the pics. I thought you were doing the painting and hence my curiosity. I would do my own painting if it were not for the health hazards. Just cannot see me trying to paint with one end of a garden hose in my mouth and the other end out the window.

yeah. I'm sure he would let me paint it with his gear, but it's a lot easier to let him do it in his spare moments at work. I know some guys have had good luck with the rattle cans, but for a tank I wouldn't trust myself. Better to find a buddy you can trade beer for booth time
