I dropped the needles one knotch and installed one size larger low speed jets (#40's) in the Mikuni's I installed on my brothers Bitsa. I disassembled the AAU because it seemed to be sticking and not returning to retarded position at idle. After cleaning and polishing the pivot shaft, I reassembled the AAU with a light coat of white grease on the pivots and reinstalled it. Damn it. I pulled the threads out of the timing chest when I tightened the top pillon bolt that holds the timing plate in place. I found a thinner washer and gently tightened the plate in place and used the adjustment of the two points mount plates to set the timing. Mickey mouse set up. Too much slop between moving parts makes it hard to get a good setting.

Bitsa taillight upgrade

I installed a LED tail light kit on my blue Bitsa. I think I'm gonna like it. Then I filed off the ridge on the on the left fork tube (it's a 71 fork tube) and did some polishing on the tube. I'll attack the right tube ridge tomorrow. I'll try to post a pic when I get both tubes polished out.

Delivered my '68' T120 to the Museum of Science and History to be displayed with some other old motorcycles. There was a beautiful old Indian, two other Triumphs (Howard "shotgun" Winchester's) and a Norton 850 there already. Supposed to be an old MotoGuzzi and a BMW with a side car plus a bunch more. The display will last a month.

I should be getting the repainted tank back for my '68' T120 Monday so I decided to do some maintenance and cleaning. I re-torqued the head and rocker box bolts, adjusted the valves, and changed the primary oil. I was surprised about how little oil drained out of the primary. There was no evidence of any leakage. Maybe it got sucked past the left (Emgo) crank seal into the sump.
The left carb had been sticking so I took it apart to fix that. These are fairly new Amal 930's with less than 2000 miles on them. I have the thick O-rings and tighten the nuts just enough to have a .040" gap between the carb and flange but the flange was a bit deformed. When I re-synchronized the carbs, I ran into a problem. If I set the full open to "even" on the front of the slide and check the cut away side, it isn't even. I don't know if it is the cut away being a bit off or the venturi. I set it at full even on front and will test ride when I get the tank back.
During cleaning/polishing, I discovered the left Emgo muffler that also has around 2000 miles on it has a hairline crack all the way around the front where the pipe is welded into the bulbous part of the muffler. Great! I hate Emgo.
