Hi all

I took my recently restored TR6P for a short club run on Saturday, beautiful day, sun shining, not a problem in the world. However on the way home, 2 kms from home, bang. The motor seized completely, & I clutched it and the noise stopped.

Walk home get the trailer and take her home, strip down, side covers off, everything looks ok, head off, pistons & bore ok, block off, (oh expletive) one piston rattling.

It appears a big end has let go for reasons unknown, the big end bolt is in several bits the bottom of the cylinder is chipped. The crank journal appears unmarked.

So the motor comes out next.

to be continued.

Kick Start Rally Berry NSW Australia

Hi all
I just got back home from The Kick Start Rally, in Berry NSW Australia. The rally caters for all makes of bikes, from any period that come adorned with a Kickstart, there were plenty of beautiful Triumphs.
The weather was a little unkind, but that is a tradition with this rally, so sit back & get wet and toughen up. After all it is winter:)

We camped at the local show ground, some arrived Fri afternoon the first ride was Sat morning around the local coast & beaches on beautiful, twisty, hilly coastal roads, with very little traffic. Then on to a drink stop at an ocean cove. Then back up through the hinter land & back to Berry.

After the ride judging was held for the various awards, then sitting around the fire, some beer was consumed.. The rain held off for most of the day. A big dinner & presentations, the a bit more sitting around the fire telling outrageous stories. Wine was involved:)

Next morning dawned rather delicately, after rain for most of the night. It cleared for the Sunday ride. It was a brilliant rally with some magnificent bikes. A few planned to stay on till tomorrow, I packed up & wandered off home.

The bike went beautifully after a difficult few months, so it was a relief to finally get it back on the road sounding & going well.

45 or so more miles on my run in. Who'd have thought a 47 yr. old cycle could be quite so much fun? :)
Hi OldRoadie

I know what you mean, I went for the weekly pie run today, to Bodalla, a short ride of about 80km (48miles) with the Moruya Classic Bike & Car Club. A few nice bikes apart from the Triumphs, a couple of Velocettes, an old Harley, AJS plus some interesting moderns including a diesel Enfield. They have a good pie & coffee shop in Bodalla.

The weather was fine & clear, as well as cool enough to be comfortable in leathers, bugga all traffic. So we all had a nice little blast down the road.

Well Rod I am always willing to take your advice on board.

Today I ordered an indicator kit from Paul Goff. The whole kit (4 indicators, flasher unit, handlebar control, telltale and wiring diagram) less than AUD60.00 including postage and handling.

I'll let you know how it goes with pics in a couple of weeks.

Cheers,
Neil.
That sounds good I'll be putting a set on too. Keep us posted.

Moruya Show & Shine

Hi all the local classic car & bike club had a registration day, and display and lunch. With a good turn up of bikes and some interesting cars. A Canberra club was in the area for the week end, there were as many interesting bikes in the carpark as in the display.

I"m a sure bet for the "blow up of the year" category.

cheers

Hi triumpt120rv

Yes that's my TR6, there were some great bikes there. The Bonnie in the pictures is very nice too, & has an oil pressure gauge neatly mounted between the main gauges.

Re your horn I'm using a horn that has been in the spare parts drawer for about 20 years, I wouldn't have a clue what it was off originally.

Hi all, I went to the local club Christmas party today, where awards for various deeds & misdeeds achieved during the year are honoured.

My bike picked up two awards, "Best Bike" and "Blow up of the Year", an unusual combination:):)

I had an interesting year, following a straight forward rebuild, the bike dropped a big end in an impressive way, while riding home in January.

When I bought the bike it was suggested that the motor had been rebuilt & while the internal components were in good condition the big end bolts were loose, one let go. I then had to go through another unplanned rebuild.

Due to the blow up I have gained a heap of inside information about Triumph engines; and during the rebuild I was assisted by three club members, who have become good friends.

So there were a few positives:)

Also the assistance from the members of this forum has been invaluable.

cheers Mal

PS. it still has bloody oil leaks

HI all over the weekend a few of us went up to the "Girder Fork Rally" in Canberra, catering for older bikes. Most of the Moruya crowd trailer-ed their bikes up, I rode up the 170km's (100 miles) as my wife was going to Canberra for the weekend too, & carted all the rally camping stuff. The weather forecast appeared ok, but in fact was probably the wettest, slimiest trip for the first half, the trip up Clyde Mountain, great. After Braidwood things cleared up & it ended up a beautiful ride.

I didn't go for the organised Rally ride, as I had just had one, I just set up camp & relaxed.
Nice night sitting around the camp with beers discussing mundane world events and important bike stuff.

Sat morning a nice ride around the back roads to the north of Canberra, no traffic, beautiful roads hills, corners, absolute bliss on an old bike. return for lunch where judging for the various year classes and other category's got underway. All the bikes were lined up in their age groups and all entrants get a vote, typical rally stuff.

A magnificent Brough cleaned up, one of our mob received trophy's for the best 50's bike & best AJS, good one Daryll.

A lazy afternoon I went over to see the grand kids & was back in time for the presentation dinner, and a few more beers, which continued on for some time at the camp. Another 100 mile day.

Sunday morning we all packed up, Graeme & I rode home the rest trailer-ed theirs. We had a beautiful ride down the Clyde, sunny warm, it doesn't get much better than this sort of day, see grinning photos below.

So all up three 100 mile days in a row, the old trophy didn't miss a beat. Two of the local Velo's weren't so fortunate having mechanical issues.

Cheers Mal
