yeah!! a music thread!!! -- i don't ride and listen to music, but i'm going to throw down some sonic loves of mine anyway:

like jr, i love aphex twin! (favorite album of his is "selected ambient works volume 2)

recent new picks:
- the mercury program
- experimental audio research
- arthur lyman: taboo

general favs, all genres:

- bill laswell: imaginary cuuba
- download
- cevin key
- sonic youth
- butthole surfers
- the mermen
- nortec collective: tijuana sessions vol 3
- the melvins
- mastadon
- ween
- johnny cash
- los lobos
- slint -- all time fav band

oh yeah,
- clutch and bad brains too!!! ha!
- --- the list goes on and on...
:)

have you guys checked out www.pandora.com ??

it rips! you punch in what bands you like, and it will find bands you'll prolly like. it's awesome! i have been turned onto so much new music in the past month, that it's dumbfounding. no more wandering around amoeba records like a deer that's been hit by a truck. i write down what i'm liking, then go and buy it. best freaking idea in a long time, especially after you have tapped out all your music friends ref's and need new tunes!
i'm not pitching the product, i'm just helping enlighten music lovers to new music!
it's cool stuff.

Vivaldi is great. You should try some polyphony (Lassus, Palestrina, Josquin, Dufay, et al) or Gregorian chant for a quite surreal experience. Also, Lute music of the 16th Century, e.g., John Dowland

Some of my other riding favs, by title:

Have Love, Will Travel - The Sonics
Highway Star - Deep Purple
(Ghost) Riders in the Sky - The Ramrods
Pushin' Too Hard - The Seeds
Follow Me - Lyme and Cybelle
Spinning Wheel - Blood, Sweat and Tears
High Tech Low Life - Die Krupps
Interstellar Overdrive - (The) Pink Floyd
Easy Livin' - Uriah Heep
I Feel Fine - Beatles
Warning Sign - Talking Heads
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Running With the Devil - Van Halen

Other Top selected examples-

Parade of Charioteers (Ben Hur)
Imperial March (Star Wars)
The White Tree (Return of the King)

(By Artist)
The Doors - L.A. Woman, Riders on the Storm, Light My Fire,
Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4, I'm a Man, Make Me Smile
Led Zepplin - Immigrant Song, Rock and Roll
Beatles - Too many to type
Amboy Dukes (w/ Ted Nugent) - Journey to the Center of the mind
Madonna - Ray of Light
The Leaves - Too Many People
Tangerine Dream - Astral Voyager, Nebulous Dawn, Phaedra, etc.
Ahpex Twin - several
Autechre - several
Technostolic (AKA, me) - anything
Talking Heads - several
Gorillas - some
The Sonics - Strychninne, Psycho, The Witch
TCM - some
Kraftwerk - most
Others by Robin Trower, Ravi Shankar, The Smiths, ELO,ELP, Enya, The Ramones, The Police, Foo Fighters, The Offspring, lots more

In Other Words, mostly really really, really old stuff.

I find it is better to listen to stuff I have heard lots of times, so I don't tend to concentrate on it, and forget where I am and what I am doing..

lan',
are you familiar with "cowboy mouth" or better yet, "doo rag"?
they're great. doo rag's drum set consists of 2 heavy beer boxes and a film reel laying on a dolly - that acts as his cymbal. it's all mic'ed and sounds pretty believable.
