What did you do to your twin today?

The Classic triple forum has a thread for daily modifications and shop work. Lets get that going for twins as well.

Today I lowered my T100's rear brake lever. I took the pin out, the master cylinder off and adjusted the bucket and locknut. Now I won't be beside my brake pedal on that bike, I can be above it, ready to use it just a tiny bit quicker.

I also painted the worst-off gas cap I had, black. So I can ride on sunny days without being blinded by my own bike. - my sun visor is in the helmet, and comes down from the top so I get nice glare off the clocks and tank... :(

That sucks, glad still have your bike. When I use to have dogs my pits were the best investment for protecting my home and bikes and family.
Anytime anyone showed up to my place they wouldn’t even exit their car until my dogs were put up, my dogs were super friendly but well trained on the home front.….FTG

my old GSD was the same. My current dog would have heard them if we had been sleeping in the front bedroom but we were in the back bedroom. also he is 13 so sleeps very deeply now. I love pitties, they are illegal in the UK due to our ridiculous breed specific laws so I only see them on the internet.

I've been making good the damage. They had tried to pry out the headlight and had buckled all three retaining rings. I have got them 95% back to round so the bike is usable on that score. I had to straighten the headlamp ears too. These thieves are so ham fisted. I have put my old bullet indicators back on, not strictly legal spacing but near enough for the tester to ignore. I just need to source an ignition lock from somewhere, I could rewire the olld one but the keyhole is a mess and invites another attempt withh a screwdriver. I am considering deleting the ignition lock but need to study the threads a bit more to get my head round the options. (I haven't aimed the headlig

I took my Bonnie into the garage for an MOT. Passed with no advisories. I asked the mechanic to give it a good going over, bearing in mind I'm just recovered from a brain injury and had a bit of work on the bike. Full scrutineering, no issues, so delighted with that.

Still can't get the tacho to work tho' so some more investigations required

Finally got my chain on and sorted. Given it had to clear the fat 170 tire, it took some sorting out with spacers and using 520 sprockets and chain but happy with the result and can now move on to other things.

Looks good, nice chain…FTG
Fitted the ignition switch which I ended up repairing, as second hand ones are thin on the ground. I had to solder and heatshrink all the wires and then wrapped the harness with self amalgamating tape. Second time I have bad to do this so it is a bit shorter than standard which isn't a bad thing. Put all the headlight etc back together and put the battery in. Started second spin which is not bad after four months. It seems I now have hazard flashers so tomorrow I have to pop the headlamp off again and swap the indicator connectors over then just the seat bolts to fit and she is ready to ride. Hopefully all the road salt is gone now.

How much trouble would it be to replace the ignition switch with an on off switch? I hate keys!
My eyes glaze over studying the wiring diagrams. I tried to understand which wires need to be energized in order to hit the starter and get down the road.

I guess you would get something like a 3-position 4-pole rotary switch to mimic the actual operation of the stock key switch. It would be quite easy to install but why would you want this? People would be able to simply walk up to your bike, turn the switch and ride off.
I wanted to relocate the horn into a narrow space under the tank (Fiamm Freeway Blaster) so I sliced off half the horn's plastic trumpet, made a new flat surface piece from Carbon Fiber, added a second layer of CF to mold it all in place, painted the top and bottom

sections in 2 different colors/textures and added a custom fabbed bracket. Result!

I guess you could link the relevant pairs in the ignition connector and put a battery disconnection switch somewhere hidden. Not sure what the cons would be. There are other switch deletion threads on here somewhere with relays and RFID etc.

Yeah, people could walk up and steal it. I suppose I am too trusting.

A different idea, that I thought about before and maybe even posted somewhere, is the idea of disguising my key as a bolt. That is, cut off the shank of the key and somehow insert that into a chrome bolt head so that it was not obviously a key. I bet you a million bucks that Dazby could do that in his sleep.

Then I could simply leave the key in it with less worry that someone will spot my motorcycle with the key so obviously still in it? I suppose I could hide a spare key somewhere on the bike incase some mischievous person removed my fake-eroo for some crappy reason. If in a dicey area - (not here on Emerald Isle NC!) I could remove the key. AND in addition to that maybe I could have a little toggle switch somewhere that overrides the kill switch? And... maybe look into those new tracking devices?

I feel like not many people are out to steal this old bike of mine, it would be more trouble than it is worth. Also, I acknowledge that thieves are sometimes incredibly clever and determined. Which I guess is why new bikes have all this theft protection which... ends up being defeated anyway by determined criminals with white windowless vans and two refrigerator dollies and a ramp.

The thing for me is that over-worrying about thieves by having all these keys and locks for every dang thing drives me (drove me ... haha) nuts!.

Fixed the indicators, left hand indicator needed wires swapping. Funny how it made all four come on although not brightly. The unwanted earth wasn't strong enough to blow the fuse until I put an allen key between the indicator shell and the fork nut!

That would be pretty easy to do with a bolt and hacksaw and maybe some JB Weld. What about a Bluetooth thing where you just tap a key on your phone to start your bike, or a fingerprint reader right on the bike where you just put your finger on it and the bike fires up?

Yes, I was thinking of a Motogadget or Axel Joost keyless system for my 2007 T100. In the end I didn't bother because I didn't want to explain to the insurance company why I'd replaced the factory wiring with a third party system.

Having chopped off my rear foot pegs to clean up my frame, I had to come up with a way to mount my exhaust. Easy route was a 2 into 1 (which I had always planned to do on this build) and the front section was a simple mount and bolt together proposition. The rear muffler however, needed something special, so I cut off the rear mount from the muffler, reshaped it and moved it 6 or so inches forward. I then made a spaced bracket (to cut down on heat transfer) that comes off the bottom of the foot peg outrigger (using rear brake master cylinder mounting bolts) to attach it, then hid most of it away with some carbon covers. I will be using a double heat shield system on this section of exhaust to mitigate any heat transfer issues with the master cylinder.

I know the weather does a number on your motobikes over there but a Little brake cleaner and steel wool will clean up the rotor nicely…FTG
Over the last few days I went from a chrome ring to a matte ring on my gloss black bucket/motodemic headlight combo, and went from 18T (520) to 19T (520) on the front sprocket. I thought I wouldn't like it, but the bike is more relaxed now, as opposed to wanting to go nowhere, fast. I like! It might be me, but it feels less vibey cruising at 4k rpm pre-upshift. Next up is cover up the upper fork with satin black vinyl wrap.
