One evening while riding my 2004 Speed Four, I noticed the reading on odometer started flashing, bike seemed to lack acceleration then at a red light while stalling, it just shut off and the ignition wont turn on. I had to bump start, bring it back home, charge the battery. Once battery was at 12.5V I was able to ride it. I come back to the bike the next day and the same symptoms as I ride it. Odo readings flashing, bike seemed like it will die but this time I managed to ride it back home. Now it wont start. I checked the battery reads at 11.5V now and wont start. The headlights etc. seem to work. Have any of you come across this issue? Would you know if this seems like a bad battery issue or is it something wrong with the charging system/stator?

Charging problem. Either the reg/rec (regulator/rectifier) or the alternator stator.

If you're unlucky could be both.

If you're lucky (and you've caught it in time) it could just be the three pin connector in the line from the alternator to the r/r. Check it first, look for any signs of burning.

Take a look at just about any post by DEcosse about those issues. He's the master and makes the diagnostic and repair process clear to those of us who are not masters at all.

Checked battery voltage (Quick Question on Battery/R/R)

After full charge, battery reads 12.8V. When I hook it up to the moto, started and ran it idle, it runs at 12.4V. So the voltage dropped. I am told I should check out the "fuse in the charging circuit". It is a 2004 Triumph Speed 4. Anyone have an idea where to look for it? Appreciate your help.

Working from memory of my TT's fuse box...... right beside the battery. I just had to go look. There are only 10 fuses on the bike. Its in position #2 that has a picture of a battery. IF YOUR WIRING/CHARGING SYSTEM IS ORIGINAL/UNMOLESTED.

My R/R plug melted years ago. Did exactly what yours is doing. Had to leave it o the side of the road and ride home bitch with a friend of mine. Repaired the connector with replacement kit I found online. Worked fine for quite a while. Til one day speedo started blinking and had to limp home. This time I used the all in one heat shrink/solder/connector. Still holding strong.

2 years ago the R/R finally died after a trip to Daytona, again lights blinking, bike sputtering. Ran out of gas within sight of a gas station because there wasn't enough power to turn on the light. Found a R/R off a wrecked R1 and wired it in. 14.2 volts. Perfect.

You guys were right about everything. It has a bad stator. Local triumph dealership mentioned it is ~$700 and has to come from UK. After-market is about $250 which is what I am going with considering the bike is 14 years old and I need both my kidneys intact. :) There were cheaper options on eBay but I had concerns with how reliable they are. So, I took a middle path.
Keep you posted on what lies ahead as we try to 'electrify the dead bike' asap. Thanks again.

Local meaning I-90 or Triumph of Seattle? Just curious.

You would do well to watch for a R/R problem shortly. When the R/R pops, the bike stops. There are a number of threads about the specific R/R to use and how to install it.

I was curious, because that shop is only about a mile or so from where I live. Local dealership is all relative, and you can't get more local than about a mile away. If I go over there, the motor doesn't even warm up.
