Let me guess, the idiot that designed this useless piece of junk was a design engineer rather than someone with any mechanical apptitude. Who would design a sump guard that wont let you change a filter without its removale, then make it nearly impossible to remove unless you have 10 inch fingers.

I have changed my oil filter 5 times this year without removing the alloy sump guard. About 4 times last year.

So I disagree with you. Sorry about that.
