How-do from TR5T Guy to Triumph Rat forum!

Thank you for adding me to the group. I have read this forum for a long time, only now getting around to signing up. Lots of useful stuff here, I hope I can contribute some useful information to other forum users and Triumph riders. I've been riding motorcycles since I was a teenager (this was before the helmet law in California...) first bike I ever rode was my pal's '71 TR6. Since then I've burned through something like 12 or 13 '60's and 70's Japanese bikes until I finally landed my first Triumph in 2001, a 1967 T100S Cafe Racer. About a year later I found - no kidding - a '74 TR5T rotting in a barn in the Central Valley with almost half of the bike in a laundry basket. I stacked the TR5T in my dad's garage and left the country for a few years. When I returned I had nothing to do so I set about getting the TR5T going. I had no idea what a weird rare bird these bikes are until I tried to find parts for it. Now I understand that almost half the bike is made out of Unobtanium. Of course, I have the occasional issue with my T100S but parts and info for it are far easier to come by. The TR5T is a ceaseless spring of weird problems and failing parts that I can't find replacements for. However, I have been able to sort out a few mysteries about these bad ass, made for ISDT homologation, last of the Meriden 500 twin bikes. The only 500 twin that made it into an OIF frame. 2552 made. The only Triumph 500 with a solo saddle, no center stand, Nippon-Denso tach and speedo, and the world's weirdest headlight/turn signal switch ever fitted to a British machine. I hope that I can impart any useful knowledge about these bikes and also find resources to help the recovery of mine. Thank you, cheers and Rubber Side Down!
