I'm interested in the TomTom Rider and would welcome any information on its installation on the 05+ ST. I did a search on the forum and couldn't find anything useful.

Will it fit without any hassles using the mounting kit included in the box, or is there to be much stuffing around?

azicat welcome. Where are you from and what 06 are you riding? We've got a couple of RAT rides meeting at Penrith to Bathurst this Sat if you're in Sydney area.

That said, talk to Bernie at GPSOz at St Peters he'll try and tell you why the new Garmin is heaps better than a tom tom :) . Actually I don't know what he'll tell you but he's been in the GPS game for a few years now and is a bike rider so you should get good advice from him.

GpsOZ

Tell him, Russ Cook said you were to ring and hassle him

p.s. I've got no affiliation with the store, just known Bernie for a few years as a nice bloke and bike rider.

Hey there

Yep I'm in the Blue Mountains - you know that bit currently pretending to be a big cigarette?

My Sprint is a MY06 red one.

Have fun on your ride this weekend. Just remember that the fire has caused a road closure on Bells Line of Road, so you'll have to tag behind the line of 4WDs on the Great Western Highway to Bathurst. As for me, I'm going camping at The Basin with the better half :) Thanks for the invite though.

What is MY06 (colour code???). If so that's mine as well - great colour!

Where abouts in the Mtns, I'm at St Marys and do Bells quite often.

The Basin (Bent's Basin or St Georges???)

If I can get motivated I'm going to do Bathurst via Goulburn and Crookwell. That'll keep me out of the traffic and add 350K to the day :)

Have a good one, and feel free to join in or setup a ride sometime.

FYI, I don't believe I've ever heard a good word about the TomTom Rider. Most of us use some sort of Garmin.

Only reason I ask is that I have a TomTom One for the car and it works great here in Australia. TomTom Riders are also available pretty much anywhere (even department stores), and relatively affordable.

(I'd get a RAM mount for the TomTom One if they made one - any ideas?)

Looks like the Garmins are 50-100% dearer than the TomToms in Australia. (Just FYI, the Triumph branded Garmin is AUD$2500ish!)

ruscook: MY06 = manufacturing year 06 :)

Thanks for the links stbadge. Looks like you had to move the switchblock and grip out several millimetres to make room for the mounting clamp - is this correct?

azicat,

Sounds like its already been said, but...

Garmin is the leader in Navigation for aircraft. My wife and I have used them for years...well, more my wife than me. Anyhow, I've just installed a Garmin c330 and a RAM mount on my 02 ST, and for the price I'm extremely pleased with it. The Garmin Zumo 550 is the cats meow! It is specifically made for motorcycles and even comes with a motorcycle mount.

A couple highlights noted. The c330 is fairly intuitive and extremely useful. Although it cannot be connected to your helmet's comm system (unlike the Zumo550), the display can be seen easily while riding down the road. It will zoom in as you begin to slow down or near a turn so that you can see more details around your turn. It has an auto color display from day to night. Moreover, at any point you can click on fuel, resturaunt, lodging, or anything else you can think of and it will offer a number of suggestions within a given area.

I've asked several dealers about the various GPS's and it seems they rarely ever see a Garmin come back for replacement or repairs.

Hope this helps
