I'm just finishing a few cosmetics on my T140 rebuild. Tomorrow I get to kick it over.

I have set the timing to the prescribed alignment statically which should be somewhere around the specified 38 degrees BTC but still needs to be fine tuned with a strobe light. I want to avoid the pinging while at the same time give the engine some time to run in. My thoughts were to retard the timing somewhat so I'll be forced to baby her for the first bit. It may be relevant to also know that I installed a set of half race cams.

Has anybody tinkered with the timing to see how much range you have to play with before it becomes quite noticeable? In other words what does it take to stop the pinging and when does the motor really begin to bog.

Thanks guys!
