The 885i tiger 99-2001 has a collector box in front of the swingarm< I've already fitted an aftermarket pipe but was wondering if anyone makes a pipe to bypass this collector box,is it naughty and wrong to junk the box???(will it harm the motor)

My problem is that I already have an after market pipe and I don't want to have to buy the triumph race pipe.I just need the connector.

I don't know why its necessary either! Its obviously not needed on the 955

You do ask some questions!!!

When the 885 came out in 99 i ordered an aftermarket pipe straight away, when it came it didn't fit!!,the dealer ordered another that didn't either, they then ordered a 3rd and on Triumphs instructions the dealer had to fit it!!! it didn't fit.

I knew who was makeing the pipes and went to see them, all they had was jig that they the made straight through pipe on,but they had never fitted one to a bike, while i was there they phoned Triumph, the guy on the end of the phone had a dickie fit about me being there, but it soon got sorted.

The collector box was Triumphs way of getting more low down grunt,as soon as the bike was launch they realised they'd dropped a clanger and it should have been 955,the kit was their way of squeezing that extra bit out of the motor, and two years latter they dumped it,with arrival of the 955 were with extra cc and horspower covered all the angles.

How do i know all this tosh?? went to the factory on a Tiger visit and asked e'm,includeing why the first Tiger wasn't 955 they told me i was wise with hindsight!!! it was a matter of months after the launch!! yea sure!!.

Thanks for that

Thats made things a bit clearer if its there for a reason other than noise regs perhaps I'll leave it. Mind you it is running like a dog below 2000 revs and it was supposed to have been mapped by triumph to a remus end can (bad fitting end can). I would go back to the original but it was damaged in a spill. Perhaps I'll just ride it and stop fiddling. Anyway of to Wales this Weekend so watch it rain.

Thunderbike make a connector. Won't work with the centre stand though, which is why mine is gathering dust.

I see no reason why artificially strangling the exhaust would improve torque though, indeed the torque charts I've seen would suggest the opposite. It can though feel stronger, which is a good reason to never trust the arse dyno.

When the kit came out in 99,there was a lot of hooing and rrring over running the race can with the collector box or with the straight through pipe(as it didn't fit) and should the off road tune be used??,as neither dealer or Triumph were any use,i did both, there's a marked difference between the two set up's,but the engine is a lot easier to clean with the straight through pipe!!.
