72 horse at the wheel with stock pistons....yeah, that seems very optomistic. But maybe their cams really are good? I dig their pipes. I'd like to see them on a bonnie or Thrux.

Holy ***** - racing a Scrambler! Hard to believe. I guess I should get mine ready for the next track day. I bet I will be the only Scrambler out there.

isn't the 865 for the scrambler the same as the 865 for the Thruxton and T-100?

it's a 270 degree motor like in the Americas and Speedmasters, but Thunderbike makes cams for the Thrux/bonnie as well. I don't know of anyone that used them, and they fail to mention in their dyno runs that the engine has had major headwork done...use at own risk.

Oh, and they're $1000...

I had thought of buying a pair of them, but i thought there was a catch to get that much power out of them. The advertisement says 78HP!

I think you'll get better power out of a big bore kit and a set of carbs.

I'm doing a 904 and some headwork really soon, oversized valves and port/polish. I hope to get the 41mm mikunis too.

This will add power all through the range, and hopefully a lot of it.

the cams only make power above 6k rpms, and they cost more than a big bore and headwork.

definately. I'm waiting on some things to sell to get the money together, but I should have all the $$$ squared away within a week or so, then I'm ordering parts. Once the parts come in I'll start tearing everything down and sending it to the machine shop. I'll take lots of pictures and post them.

I can't wait! What sucks is the bike will be down for probably about 3-4 weeks. Maybe I can borrow my brother's SV 650 to ride until it's done.

We ride year round down here...

I have occasionally wondered if horses are smaller in New Zealand. My reasonably modified Bonnie is nowhere close to the ponies the kiwis are reporting. Maybe their stuff is just that good?

BTW, I like the look of the stock Scrambler pipes better than the aftermarket ones I've seen. The aftermarkets are all sort of weird hybrids between a Yosh, a Dunstall, and I dunno, a 70s Kawi pipe, maybe with a little medieval armor thrown in?

Probably not smaller,just metric. Whats the metric HP conversion this year? .825:1U.S.HP ? :-D

Well guys, I can assure you that the horses down here are at least the same size as everywhere else, and sometimes bigger! NZ breeds excellent horses - good rich pasture, as it rains a bit here; ever heard of Phar Lap? and you all saw Lord of the Rings I guess...
I was at the World's fastest Indian rally in Invercargill last weekend on my own Scrambler and can confirm I saw the TBike Scrambler in action: it was pretty awesome looking, doing well, and sounded the Horn - it goes like schleisen offen der shovel, as they say. The guys were pretty friendly, and take the development of their bits very seriously. I haven't used anything from them except an AI kit yet, but they've been around a good while - been a Triumph dealer since near when Hinckley started in 94 or so - and seem to be considered reputable by the biking community here (which is huge for a small country - 3000 bikers I gather in Invercargill last weekend). I doubt you'd find them falsifying their dyno figures.
I'm prob. going for a set of pipes when the Scrambler's ru in anyway (and when I can afford them!)

I don't think anyone was saying dyno records were falsified. There is certainly variation amongst dynos and even from run to run. As you yourself know, when the phrase is "typical results are shown" the wise interpretation is "the best results are shown".

Dr Pat, you should buy the cams and tell us how well they work.

yeah Doc you're right - these guys seem very enthusiastic about Scramblers, and of course, are on the same island as me (albeit at the other end, but), so I don't get the hit we Antipodeans have to wear for freight (though I do pay GST). I'd like to take my bike up there (excellent ride, and Nelson is a nice place to visit anyway) and get them to do the cams and pipes and breathing in one hit, so that she's optimised. That should make a very versatile and pretty sharp handling and running package out of a Scrambler; as long as one has no illusions - if you want serious speed and horsepower, Bonnies and the like aren't the machines, obviously.

Only thing is at the moment, I've stretched the finances to get my Scrambler without sacrificing my good green Bonnie, sohave to wait a while before more serious bike-related spending...

their cams are bloody expensive, double the core exchange ones out of the states, do you reckon they are worth that much more,
& I guess there is steep shipping to Australia from NZ like the US too ?

not sure why we can't take our cams to a local cam mob and have them ground like we could with our cars years ago ?
