This bike F 'ing ROCKS! I'm not usually given to such childish enthusiasms (or statements), but I just had the BEST ride in to work. Lane-splitting past the cages in bumper-to-bumper traffic, my exhaust alternating between a roar and a caustic clatter as it echoed under the cars, hitting traffic-free gaps every time a sweeping turn came up, and a beautiful setting sun: It was amazing. Hallelujah for motorcycles in general, Triumphs in particular, and D&D cans.

lane splitting???? You keep that up you will be hearing more
then just your exhaust bouncing off the cars.
All it takes is just one car to change lanes, They wont
be looking /expecting some one coming between lanes.
You keep it up , you wont be rocking for long.

Sorry Man...... I don't mean to crash your buzz.
I'd just hat to hear about another one of us going down.
And splitting lanes, as much fun as it is . Sure is a good
way for that to happen.
Ride safe.

I'm the king of the wussies, and I live by lanesplitting. If I couldn't, I might not ride at all. I don't think it's particularly dangerous as long as:

1) it's done at reasonable speeds
2) rider maintains high situational awareness

Driving between cars at 100 plus, while checking your reflection in the gascap, that's stupid.

And yes, the Thrux ROCKS. The "alternating between a roar and a caustic clatter" is a perfect description of the exhaust note of a Thrux fitted with naughty pipes.

I think it's pretty dangerous, but i admit i do it a bit........very very carfully mind you, but i do. I wish i could stop, but there are times it's just way too tempting. there is however one place i feel it's safer than not doing it.......at stoplights. The cars aren't moving and the alternative is more dangerous because once between the cars you don't have to worry about someone failing to stop and crunching you between them and the car in front of you. Thats happened to me before, tho at slow speed. But i always worry about that because it just takes for it to happen one time and you're dead meat. No escaping being crunched between 2 cars ! but on the freeway it's pretty dangerous IMO. I try not to do it there, but when theres a traffic jam due to an accident it's like god just handed you a free pass out of hell !

If I'm stuck in traffic I'll move to the far right and putt
along the brake down lane, before I'd ride in between
cars splitting lanes. Even riding slow all it takes is one car
to turn into your path. It has nothing to do with balls.
I've just got a little wiser in my not so old age.

On a Thrux you sit high and the bars are only, like, 2 inches wide. It's a lane splitting machine. I doubt I'd split on a feets-fo 'ward bike with bags...and I don't live in Boston either. But I've lane-split on 880 at night...if you know this area, you'll know that's a real man's game. ;-)

But this is thread drift. Back to the original topic. Bonnies RAWK and its OK to shout it. Say it loud...

That is the best way to get flat tires.
All the stuff on the road gets thrown onto the side of the road, nails, screws, etc, I NEVER drive anything on the side of the road.

Said it before, if you didn't lane split in London, Mancha would still be trying to get home from the dealership. That said, the traffic is nose to tail and generally stationary, so maybe there's less risk here than there!

About as wild as I've got in traffic is using an expressway lane size shoulder on the Borman Freeway. Moving along nice at 65 mph with a deadhead going 55 in express lane. Third gear pass at an instant (4 sec.) 100+ and back in. I don't know what laws are like regarding filtering, but the law of survival works for me. If it is there, I'll take it. If not, I can wait. Sure would be nice to get out from under this cruddy weather and do something like taht!

My favourite D&D trick, is to run by a line of parked cars in town at about 5k in first and see how many car alarms I can set off!
My Hydes (Classic Silencers) can set off car alarms also(this shocked me), I wonder if Triumph Off Road Pipes would ? stock definately won't.
