It's a done deal, fellas. Only minor detail at this point is to rid myself of one crisp Ducati 749.
Met Limey and Martyn up at Pure Triumph today and took a spin on an innocent looking little white one. Wow.
My first thought when I sat on it was that it was that with a bar with a straighter bend (Renthal CR Hi is my old standby) it would be the most perfectly ergonomic setup I could wish for. I was immediately comfortable on the bike. When sitting still and fingering the controls it feels squishy and unrefined as compared to my Duc (cable clutch, lower spec switches and such) but as soon as Martyn fired the engine up and we rolled away from a stop, all ill thoughts left my mind. The bike works wonderfully. Motor is insano. SO responsive, perfect midrange, awesome sound. Suspension is good once you're rolling. Not nearly as punishing as the Duc and I'm sure it was setup for a guy a little lighter than my 200lbs but it felt great. It's a street bike. An incredibly nasty, cool, fun street bike. We got caught in a rainstorm and even so I was laughing out loud in my helmet as I hoisted low 90mph acceleration wheelies you know, getting a feel for it. Haha. I'm still grinning.
When I got back on the 749 to head home I realized just how unforgiving that bike is. It's a great bike, don't get me wrong. I'll never regret owning it and I've had a lot of fun. It's just that I can do everything I want, have more fun and go just as fast on an S3 all while as comfortable as if I were sitting in my Lazy Boy back at the house. It's the most violently fast and wonderful "comfort bike" I've ever experienced, and I can't wait 'til I have one.
