Just back from a 4 day tour of south west and central North Island NZ.

Thought you may like to see a few pictures taken.

Mt Taranaki (Mt. Egmont) in Taranaki district.

Stradford Taranaki
A Shakespearean clocktower in which clockwork 'actors' from Shakespear's plays open windows at different times of the day and recite lines from his plays. About 8 windows all told.

Small Harbour in King Country district

Mt. Ruapehu taken from Lake Taupo

Three members of the group standing in front of a German WWII mine recovered from the coast on 02Dec42. My T-bird in the background.

Great area for riding, I think on one day covering a couple of hundred kilometres on sealed roads we saw only half a dozen cars.

Wow; beautiful scenery! The first picture is almost unbelievable.

What is that in the upper left corner of the Mt. Ruapehu picture?

Great scenery wherever we went. We rode all around Mt. Taranaki on a one day trip, its perfect cone is similar to Mt Fuji in Japan.

The object you see on in the sky above Lake Taupo is a parachute being towed by a speed boat, there's a guy hanging from it.

Great Pics Tbird!

And yea, there is something really odd about that first one...it has either a photo shop quality to it, or the cows are made out of plaster.

Gotta start saving up for a trip.

Terrific images, Tbird – they make me really want to visit. I’ll give you a call when I get there – in the year 3000 at my current rate of progress.

There’s something Kilimanjaro-like about that first picture (well, when viewed from the mara to the west). A single snow-topped volcanic massif surrounded by wide canopied semi-xerophilous trees. A few Bos Indicus wandering about and the impression would be nigh complete. Mind you, I suppose those Jersey heifers were as curious about you as you were about the mountain.
I’m perplexed about that tower, though. Surely that can’t be a real timber frame – rather, simply clad to make it look like one. The position (and omission) of the braces and windows would suggest it’s a façade. I wonder if any of the actors shout, “Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow!” on the stroke of midnight.
Still, what a beautiful country you live in.
I went to Carlisle again today and it was still bloody raining – as bloody per… :(

PS. I didn’t know you were a bigamist – you lucky sod!

Fabulous photos there Tbnz, my father-in-law lives just across the bay from you in Takapuna. It's a far piece from here in Ga., USA though. Have always wanted to come down for a visit... maybe someday.

Agree TBA, 1st shot great but was stunning from wherever you could see it which was from quite a distance. The cows came running over to see what was going on when we stopped our bikes. The sea was just a hundred metres behind me so if I could have got that in it would have been a greater shot.

I think the clocktower Keef is similar to mock Tudor, wood and plaster, it plays Shakespearean music along with the play reciting. Romeo and Juliet came out, "Where art thou Romeo ?" (Top window mate !)

You will definitely have to visit Takapuna dtCharlie, I used to live there and my g/f still does.

Well didn't see much surfing mkchev, despite seeing a lot of sea, here is one of the Taranaki beaches, a town beach in fact of New Plymouth and it was Thursday 4th January when it was taken. Couple of surfers but not much surf there on the west coast that day.

Great pics. Beautiful country. Next month I'll be visiting the area (Waitara), then on to Tauranga (BOP). Rode the Coromandel Peninsula last time I was over there. Now there are some bends, wow! Also Paeroa for the racing, here I come. :-D
