I am looking for recommendations for the best place to send a tank for mounting point repairs. I am sure it will need paint as well, which is a shame because the tank looks great with the exception of the cracked rear tab. I want this done right so it is never a problem again. I am located in the U.S..

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Back in '73, my '72 Daytona 500 had the same thing happen. I took it to a local guy who worked on Triumphs as a sideline and he used some sort of heat protecting "putty", for lack of a better word, that kept the heat damage to the very minimum. It was burned only about 1/2 inch or so up the rear of the tank. I was able to use a spray can to do a very decent touch up, and the saddle covered the whole repair. Ask around at the local shops and specialist welders, Mine was brazed, actually, and it was still perfect when I sold the bike a couple of years later.

Hope this helps: Jim

Jim was it a front or rear fender you were looking for?? Hutch picked up a pretty nice original front at Mid-Ohio if you need a front. He couldn't remeber if you needed a front or rear.

Thanks for letting me know. I needed a rear one and have found it and just finished putting it on the bike. Rod Wheeler, The Triumph Guy, in CA had it. I got his name from Greg Hutt at California Classic Cycles, who Don had told me to call. Appreciate greatly that you thought of me. I may see him about that fender, though, as the rear I got is, naturally a bit greener as it's an n.o.s. His might match my rear one a bit better. At least the bike's fixed and ready to ride, and that's all that counts.

Thank You Again: Jim
