Hi guys,
I know this is the Sprint forum, but there's a few aussies in here so I thought I;d post here. I've got 15,000km up on the Tiger, and overall she's a great ride. I am thinking about a minor upgrade to the suspension though as I find it a little harsh on the rough stuff. I'm thinking a rebuild of the rear OEM shock with setup to my weight will do the trick.

There are 2 specialist suspension workshops within 40mins of me in Western Sydney: Terry Hay's ShockTreatment and TecknicRacing.

Does any one have any experience with either and/or a recommendation?

Terry Hay seems to get pretty good wraps from the Aussie motorcycle magazines.

You may want to try Zenodamper, the guys at Rapid Bike magazine love him.

Harshness is often the result of the compression damping being set too hard. Back it off an see if it makes much difference. These suspension guys can cost you a fortune and sometimes you don't end up with a better result.

Before you do anything quiz others who have had suspension work to the same model and get their impressions. The key things to get right are the spring rates for the forks and rear shock.

Hey Russ, I can highly recommend Sean O'Sullivan of SOS Suspension at 7/9 Abel St Penrith. Ph 02-47325533 or 0412245176. Fax 02-47215277. ...

The guy lives and breathes bikes, his workmanship and attention to detail are second to none IMHO. He rebuilt the forks on my son's Katana and the result was awesome.

Check out his GSXR streetfighter - it is one bad arse bike!

Cheers,

Roden

No disrespect to any other suspension tech in Oz, but Terry's by far the best man for the job. No-one in Oz comes close.... end of story. I could rabbit on about the reasons why, but will just ask you to take my word for it instead. You're lucky to have him on your doorstep.

For the record, I took a GSX750F to Terry Hay some years ago and the result was very disappointing. To be fair, he was only starting to branch out to roads bikes then, so by all recent accounts he has been doing his home work and improving his product.

Russ, keep us up to date on where you end up going and what you end up doing, as I'm researching suspension upgrades for my Sprint and I'm still are sure where I'm going to take it and part with my hard earned.

Everyone that I ride with on the track/ road uses James Gunn (Zenodamper). The only bad thing I have heard is that he takes a long time as he is so busy. But the end result is great.

I used Rick Pobjoy at Blacktown for my trackie and I was really pleased with the outcome.

Sean O'Sullivan also has a great reputation.

A little update...

So far it looks like to service the rear shock and put on a new spring costs around $400AUD. This is from 4 different places in and around Sydney. Will let you know when I get my shock back some time next week on how it compares to stock.
