Hi,
I have a 08 Speed Triple II and I am looking to upgrade the suspension. I am currnently looking at RaceTech and Ohlins.

RaceTech:
Forks: G2-R Gold Valve Kit + High Performance Forks Springs

Shock: G3-LD Shock Gold Valve Kit along with a HP Rear Shock Spring

Ohlins:
Forks: springs Part no. 08770-95 + 20mm piston kit

Shock: part no. TR 807

Any idea which option would get me most bang for the buck?

Any feedback apreciated.

I've decided to go with Race Tech for the shock. It's about $1050 for the Ohlins v. $400 for the Race Tech (doing the R&R of the shock myself). The upside of the Ohlins is that you can remove it and sell it when you sell the bike, but I think you're only likely to get 600-700 when you go to sell it. So the cost is a wash except that you pay more up front for the Ohlins. If I could sell my Hawk now, I'd go for the Ohlins, but it doesn't seem to be moving until Spring.

Have you gotten a cost for the Ohlins fork kit?

I went with the Race Tech springs and Gold Valves, and the Ohlins on the rear.
The nice thing about the Ohlins is the remote preload. It's easy to set sag, and firm it up for two up.

Quotes

Hi,
I have emailed a few UK suspension specialists but I have yet to recieve quotes for either options. I suspect that the Ohlins option will be a fair bit more expensive though.

Exactly what I'm doing, Put the Ohlins rear on about 6 mths ago doing the Racetech Spings & Kit soon.

The improvement in handling, and rider confidence with those two, albeit expensive mods ( but worth it), absolutely transform a Speed Triple. I had a buddy who races help me set up the F+R. I've never measured the sag, other than by feel and the bike handles like it's on rails. Maybe this year I will stop long enough to recruit some friends to help dial in the sag. I can imagine how good it will handle then!

RaceTech UK quote

Hi,
I got a quote for £1000 to do the below work - does that seem resonable?

Forks: G2-R Gold Valve Kit + High Performance Forks Springs

Shock: G3-LD Shock Gold Valve Kit along with a HP Rear Shock Spring

Thanks,

At the current rate (1GBP->$1.42) this matches what I paid in US. Given that things are usually more expensive on your side of the pond, this is good price.

Hi,
Here's the RaceTech quote breakdown I got from ShockTech in the UK:

SMGVS 4601 = $170
FORK SPRINGS = $110
FMGVS 2053C = $400
SHOCK SPRING = $120

Total = $800 which converts to £563.58
+ import duty = £676.30
+ labour (£200) = £876.30
+ VAT = £1007.75

Cheers,

Go ohlins all the way! Fully adjustable and it performs like no other! Call Sean at British Customs 310-225-2570 I believe they are selling the ohlins rear shock and fork springs directly from Ohlins USA.

Race Tech suspension

I just sent my suspension to Race Tech; I have a 2008 Speed Triple; I'll report on my experience once I adjust it properly and ride it.
