Me again :-D

One more question for you all - when I switch off after doing about a 6-mile trip, about a second after I kill the engine, the silencers make one or two faint 'phut' sounds. It doesn't happen if I just run the engine for a few minutes and then switch off. Is this something I should be worried about?

uber, your idle may be set to high. Make sure choke is off, the throttle is working freely and that your idle isn't causing a run on condition. You should have no "combustion" once the ignition is off. In the good old days, improper timing could cause dieseling (run on) but that shouldn't happen with the set up on these bikes. The fact that longer idle time eliminates the issue makes think it has to be something simple. I don't believe the 6 mile ride should have any bearing other than the engine has been warmed up in that distance. Check the simple things first and then try to duplicate the sequence that caused the symptom. Hopefully a minor adjust is all that is required.

I have the AI removed on mine, and new jets and aftermarket mufflers, all the good stuff.
My mufflers came packed with steel wool not fiberglass. Sounds wierd but it sounded good. whenever I have been on a good ride at highway speeds, it will do that, glug glug thing.
I took the packing off of the mufflers and put them back in. it does not do that anymore. I guess the heat build up in the pipes will ignite some unburned gas.
I think it's cool, and it is definately nothing to be worried about.
