Nah, pretty straightforward: use something that won't mar the paint on the legs, like the edge of a piece of wood.
I took mine off while the forks were on the bike - popped them up and out of the retaining groove and then snipped them with metal snips. I knew I would not ever put them back on because the bike looks so much better without them.

the procedure says to lock the camshaft gear with the back lash gear using locking tool T3880330. is this just a pin? and if so what size will fit the hole?
