Mine is bigger than yours... It's an age old hangup we have. There is a guy on the R1 forum bashing the 999 as the worst bike ever made basically.

Funny, though. There is an AWFUL lot of Duke talk around this site lately. Pretty cool. The only reason I went Duc is I've always wanted an SBK... No way would I do a Duc Monster over the S3. However the S4Rs is on heck of a bike.... the 1098 is THE SBK to have in 07. I'll get one someday. I'm really digging getting into my 996 these cold, snowy days. The 1098 is one bada$$ sounding machine. And the numbers are very impressive... Price aint bad either for the base model. 14k.

Itchin, say it aint so.

I considered the Duc in question. I also looked at the Zed, SV1000, and R1. They all fit me well. Not to brag but I got the scratch to buy the ***** duc, but i wanted to go my own way.

You know we are comparing an "S or RS" naked bike to street bike. I don't see anyone talking about the non S model, Oh and that model does not have the ohlin suspension.

I wish Triumph would just build a Speed Triple R with a free flowing intake putin out 150rwh with 80 pounds of torque and ohlin suspension. I'd bought that version in a new york minute, even if it cost 15 big ones.

CB, way to go defending the mark! Most of those guys seemed pretty complimentary to the S3 overall. For all the the Duc talk, they are fair weather and track day bikes overall. I have only seen 1 Duc out in the mountains during bad weather (that guy had a bazillion miles on her, very cool ST2). Rode w/ speedydave today about 250 mile loop up to Lake Lure/Black Mountain/Lake James, about half of ride was rainy/windy and half sunny/windy. Saw 1 HD in town and on the back roads (drum roll please)....... FIVE TRIUMPHS!!! Dave's S3, my TBA, another TBA on 181 (I was surprised to see another one lol) a T100 and a Thruxton riding together. We usually are the minority of the minority of bikes out there so this made me a happy camper. Sick minds thinking alike! I love it. We may never rule the world, but we ride while they pose............

My list of possible bikes to choose from after I finish up grad school;

-1098 (but insurance would be like 3k probably so thats axed)

-S4Rs (or better naked bike to be my cute scoot, S3 would remain my wicked stunt/badass bike)

-Next big Daytona, if it ever comes out

-675 (bought used then upgraded with race parts and other bits)

There will be more bikes on the list by the time I finish school, but those are at the top right now. I doubt I'd ever trade up to a new Speed Triple unless it starts coming with 130+ rwhp, 80+ ft lbs, and a racetech, WP, or ohlins suspension standard.

So, when's Itchin' gettin' his new Duc?

Nice catch, CB. "the S4RS will rip the lungs out of the S3?" Those Italophiles are given to hyperbole, aren't they. Seems to me the only real performance advantage the Monster has is in the suspension dept., which is nothing that couldn't be remedied with the money saved by buying the S3 and upgrading (and still having money left over for a nice Italian dinner).

It seems to come down to styling. The monster is just kinda lumpy lookin', and while I like the trellis frame, I prefer the HR Giger look of the S3's engine and frame.

Ducs are to the sportbike world what Harleys are to the cruiser set - it's all about the image (face it - if you really want plain ol' performance, go out and buy a GSXR).

+1 on having the cojones to go to the Monster site and defend our S3's, Cheap! The S4RS probably will outhandle and out-break our bikes, but for the extra wad of cash it should. Put our bikes up against an S2R or S4 and we'd likely see a different outcome. Also, it's nice to ride something a little more unique. At the hangout I'm at most weekends, you'll see a slew of Monsters. I'm usually the only (or one of very few) S3's.

Cheap you rotten motherFawker. :-D *****, every where i go, everything i do , no matter what, theres cheap. Was taking a shower the other day and when i stepped out, guess what, there was cheap standin there handin me a towel, made me feel special but COME ON. Actually, cheap sais somethin the other day about stirrin the pot over there so i thought i would check it out. Seems they are just as rabid about their make as we are. When i bought, it came down to the Buell, the Duc and the S3. The buell went away real fast. The Duc just floored me but i could'nt get past the crazy price, the maintanence schedule, The oil cooler three inches from the ground and front wheel, ungaurded. Then i rode the S3 and it was a done deal. I admit that the Duc talks to me, but speedy screams at me. So dont hate me too much, i was just whorin around on a boring winter day.

I have'nt ridden in over two months and i'am losing it, startin to feel choked.

Cheap, ya did'nt even give me a chance to bribe ya. :-D

As i was reading the Duc post, the wife was standing behind me. All i heard was , BAAAAWWWWW. DUDE YOU ARE SO BUSTED. LOL :-D

You know I do like some Ducs but I am not a fan of the Monster's for some reason or other. To swoopy or something not enough street fighter look. To refined maybe for my taste.

I'm sure some of their performance area's are the biz, ie suspension and the brembos. But for the extra cake you could easily upgrade to better parts then they use. However that said, MCN has done numerous braking tests and the best stopping bike 60mph-0 was the 05 S3 something like 120 feet. As you know MCN does not bend to manufactures they test it and give you the results period. So if that DUC lover wants solid data direct him to MCN

Some more hard numbers:

07 Duc S4Rs 117hp @ 9750 rpm
68.2fpt @ 7500 rpm
Rearwheel Data

1/4 mile 10.71 @ 126.57

05 Triple 119.8hp @ 9250 rpm
73.4fpt @ 7750 rpm
Rearwheel Data

1/4 mile 11.11 @ 121.51

They got the 1/4 mile time but nothing else and if you notice that is an 07 vs. an 05 numbers. All I could find for now.
