Hi guys,
I am planning exchanging the silencers (mufflers) on mt T100.
I initially simply thought has to be TORs cos they are made by Triumph, can't go wrong. I have read on here where some of you think that they are too quiet and hardly worth the money. I have found staintunes.Australian made and look first class workmanship.
At 90 dB with restrictors in 95dB with them in, are they going to be too loud?

Any comments?

I don't know if I've ever heard any..... but knowing what I know about the craftsmanship of Staintune, and the option of removing a baffle (and/or putting it back in), AND seeing that recent picture posted of some reverse cone Staintunes....

I wish I had some!

(I'm concluding that Stanintune makes both a peashooter style and reverse cone style????)

I got a full Staintune system on my Duc, and it's great - quite loud (the little inserts don't do much at all to reduce noise) and very well made. Have never heard them on a new Bonnie, so I can't help you there.

I've got NH Togas on my T100 - and I'm very happy with them. Loud but not viciously so, and the inserts do make a discernable difference in noise (I installed them once - they sounded too quiet so I took them out and put them in storage).

Not sure if you were looking to do peashooters (does staintune make peashooters for the bonnie?) but I have the reverse cones and let me tell you, they're great! If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably go BC Predators (they're cheaper, and similar fit finish quality, etc.) but I also hear the BC's a tad louder and throatier, if you like that sort of thing.

But still, the staintunes are top notch in my book.

Thanks for your replies, to answer your questions, yes they do pea shooters as well as reverse cones and I would be intending to fit the pea shooters as they are my personal preference.

I will take a look at the predators. I agree that the Staintunes are expensive but having seen the quality on my mates VFR I think it is money well spent. Also no re jetting is required and they never need repacking as I have been lead to understand some do.

Cheers,
Bob

Regarding the Staintunes.......does "no jetting change required" equate to "no performance increase"?

I plan to buy a new Bonneville soon, and am trying to decide which replacement exhausts to get. I just want an "appropriate" motorcycle exhaust note, not necessarily loud noise, and I like the peashooter style. Currently leaning a bit toward the TORs.

I have the reverse cones on my 06 T100 and I did have the bike rejetted, as much because the bike runs way too lean right out of the box. In fact my girlfriend bought an 05 Bonneville (800cc) at the same time and the dealer replaced the jets as due course while they were assembling the bike while keeping everything else stock. They just won't let the bike out of the showroom without new jets.

My Staintunes are much louder than the peashooters on the 800cc, it drowns it out and my bike starts with quite a "crack" if I give it any throttle when it's cold. Now my neighbours may not care for it as much as me but in no way is my bike remotely as loud as a V-Rod with Screaming Eagles.

One thing I have noticed is that my bike doesn't care to run a snick under 1100 rpm or it will occasionally miss or even stall and the idle moves around a bit more than the 800cc so I find myself as high as 1500 rpm one day and 1000 the next. There are adjustments to the carb that the dealer has made and it's improved but it takes longer for the rpm to drop to idle but the technician said that with those pipes it's harder to get it spot on.

A little fiddling at a stop light is cool.

Oh yeah I should also add that my bike had the air injection removed as well.

Staintune does makes both reverse cones and peashooters (or teardrop). However only their teardrops come w/ the removable baffle.

I really like the looks (and sound) of my reverse cones, but only w/ the solo seat installed. When I put the stock seat back on my T100, she looks like she needs the teardrops instead.

I would take that more as meaning that they are compatible with the engine. Staintune claim an 8HP gain without re jetting, I would suggest this does not rule out tuning by re jetting to increase power even more.

Personally I am not bothered by extra power. If I wanted a more powerful bike I would have bought one.

I have seen and bought a pair of Predator teardrop exhausts this afternoon. ( a lot cheaper and good finish too)Can't wait to fit them and hear the old girl sound like a proper Triumph at last!

byjingo,

The British Custom Predators are nice too. But did you get the Predators or the teardrops (or peashooters) that they sell. If you bought the latter, they are the Triumph off-road mufflers. There is no such animal as "Predator teardrop exhausts".

So please set me straight... did you actually get the Predators or the TOR (peashooter) mufflers off their site?

I have staintunes. I like them the best and while it seemed to run OK with stock jetting after I changed the stock 110 jets to 125 main jets put the Staintunes on and no other change EXCEPT PULL THE LEfFSIDE AIRBOX SNORKEL OUT TOO...the 125 jets are perfect for me with the pipes and side snorkel removed...you won't be putting it back to stock and no other mods and it pulls hard and runs great in all RPMs. You can go beyond this with airbox removal stuff and fatter jetting but I like it like I have it. So a 125 main jet with the snorkel pulled out is my recommendation.

I got exhausted w/ exhaust- so I gutted the stock peashooters & they look & sound great. She also runs like a B oughta H as well. When the stock pipes start to rust beyond polish potential- I will look @ what is available then? Till then RIDE ON!!
