I remember when the Speed Triple first came out in 1995. I test rode one and came away thinking how fun a bike it was to ride. Like, the funest.

I don't own one, I have a Tiger.

What do you all think of the evolution of the Speed Triple over the years and what is it now? Would the original still be a good bike to have around if you could get one cheap?

How do you think it compares with the newer ones?

I went on a New Years Day ride and there was 95 there and I was really impressed with it. The dual exhaust all black and the tight looking clip-ons and single lamp, it looked great. The guy who owned it kept it look brand new......sweet bike.

Yes it just keeps getting better looking! Hope Triumph doesnt loose the styling to the other generic Jap/ducat/everyother bike....look all its own. Sean

A 95/96 model would be a good find. Any year you find is good to go. They all are great bikes. The current engine is the best yet though I don't think it's leaps and bounds over whe 955i in previous years bikes.
Astetically I like the look of the 97-01 bike best. The Buelish tail section isn't for everyone. Love the tank and forks though.

I think on another thread it mentioned that the British bike mag. "Bike" ran a contest and the T3 Speed triple was voted "Best looking and sounding". I like the early one, I guess thats why I looked so long for mine. But I like the newer ones too. I think the dual headlights are a bit much and they look a little too "road warriorish" for me but I like them all.

Early ones (T3s) combine old school looks with modern reliability, brakes, rubber etc they are big chunky and the motors look like they were made out off granite

They were cool...still are cool and have stood the test of time....top peice of kit :-D

The T5s 509/955i etc were a in yer face hooligan born out of streetfighter hacks that had been made in sheds for years. Whacky and wild, they bore hardly anything in common with the early T3s apart from a three cylinder motor

I've got a 95 but might be tempted to add a black 509 (with the clip ons) with underseat pipes etc :hammer: the early tail units were far better in my humble opinion.

I think as the T5s got older they got more like a girls hand bag with body kits etc.. :( the new S3 is pretty cool tho but I'm not sure it isn't a bit too small and stumpy for me (but I might be being picky  ) )

The 95s a keeper for me so I guess that says it all :-D

I've found an interesting gallery collection of Speed Triples Click Here

Is Speed (Triple) Freak possibly a member of this forum?

P.S. Is anyone a member of the yahoo list: Speed3 · The Speed Triple List? I was wondering how useful it is... Click Here
I am a member of the Speed3 group...it's pretty slow in there these days but is worth searching for info as it covered most topics at one time or another, there were some good knowledgeable folk contributing

When I first saw the S3 in 94 I loved it, Being an old Triumph fan from the Mid 70's having 2 72 Tiger 650's and a 73 Bonnie I thought it was fantastic Triumph were finally back in business, But alas at that time I just couldn't afford it, New house Bills bills and more bills!! When the T509 came round I was in a more comfortable position to buy one, so I did, and the rest is history, Loved the 509 nobody I rode with had a FI naked bike and it went well, Had that until the new updated 02 came along and got one of those in Neon Blue, that bike was in a different league fantastic, A Monster destroyer Handled well Tons of grunt and Torque, But I really liked the 97-01 bodywork better, Then I wanted to try a V2 So I bought an 01 Mille, Liked that too, But when the 05 S3 came along I had to have one so I did and got a S4 with it. Thats my Triumph history
