So I did my first track day on my new 2019 RS this weekend and it was a blast. The topic of tire pressures came up a lot. I got varying answers from 32 cold to 28 hot for pressures.

I started with 32 cold and during the 5th session, I lost some traction in a specific corner a couple of times which led me to drop the pressure for my next session.

I'm curious what people are running for both street AND track with this bike/tire combo?

2 different qualified sources told me 30/30 to start then adjust from there depending on your individual characteristics and suspension.

Don't have the bike or tyre, but a general comment is that the structure of street and track tyres are different meaning they are meant to run at different pressures. One of the reasons road tyres are built to run at higher pressures is that one of their jobs is to pretect the rim when eg you hit a pothole. There aren't many potholes on track, so this function is unnecessary. The point is that running track tyre pressures on even very sticky road tyres may not be the best option.

It might be worth calling Pirelli to ask, or check out Dave Moss Tuning on youTube. A data point that might be useful is to know the hot pressures for spirited road riding, and then to make sure the track hot pressures don't go past that

Btw one of the sources I referenced was Dave Moss Tuning good call lol. The other is Lee Parks the author of Total Control book and Total Control Motorcycle Training. Did the Pennsylvania State sponsored Advanced Riders Course at Pittsburgh International Raceway last month. They had us all with track ready bikes start at 30/30.

Yes, Total Control book well worth a read. Unfortunately they don't do the course in the UK....


That's a bummer. In Pennsylvania his courses are paid for by the Commonwealth. Only state in the US to do it this way but I'm not complaining. Took the intermediate and advanced classes all for free woohoo!

Taking the instructor course to become an instructor in October.
