I've been looking at slider options for Speedy. I was wondering, has anybody tried mounting some of the more common (big 4 applications) sliders on the Speed Triple? I mean, it's just a nylon, Delrin, or polycarbonate puck, sometimes with a spacer, mounted with a bolt. The axle ones just bolt through the hollow axle.
For example, would a front fork slider for a GSXR1000 fit speedy? As long as axle length and diameter are close, it should.
As for the rear swingarm, isn't it basically the same ELF-type swingarm that Honda used in the '90's? Wouldn't a Honda app fit?
For that matter, any dual swingarm app should fit, as long as axle length and inner diameter are comparable.

I'm going to take measurements and start comparing. If anybody has already tried, I'd like to hear.

i know that i tried to mount my old r1 sliders and they were too small to allow the larger triumph bolt to pass...and i don't know if the swing arm slider actually goes through the axle or the spool mount :???:

Took some measurements on Speedy-

front axle length is 10.5 in (267mm) left end is 14mm, right is 22mm

rear axle is 11.625 in (295mm) left end is 28mm, right is 30mm

bar ends are 11/16 ID (17mm)

left engine mid-mount - 12mm bolt, 32mm longer than slider - 3/8" minimum spacer on frame, 2 1/4" long puck.

right engine mid-mount - 12mm bolt, 57mm longer than slider - 7/8" minimum spacer on frame, 2 1/4" long puck.

If the bar ends and axle sliders are 1" thick, a 2 1/4" puck on the frame at the motor mid-mount will keep everything off the ground except for turn signals, footpegs, and the very end of the stock levers :-D :-D

I'll go by some of the local dealers this weekend and measure axle lengths on the big 4.

Also, what is the composition of typical skateboard wheels? I think you can get them in Urethane, Nylon, and Delrin. Might make good pucks. Hmmmm.

I found frame sliders for Speedy!

Vortex # FS-206 - frame sliders for a CBR1000RR are pretty much a direct fit. The Vortex is set up so you can buy the base mount for your bike, then buy individual pucks as you need. One of the local dealers, Broward Motorsports, let me look through the different applications they had in stock, and the CBR1000 app looked right.

Right side bolts on to the engine mid-mount with no modifications

Left side, the bolt in the kit is about 5/8" too long, so its either cut the bolt, find one 15mm shorter, or fit a stack of washers inside the puck - I stacked washers.

Installation looks great. If the bike goes down, Vortex is set up so only the puck needs replacement, about $17 each. (Black puck is part # PS101-K)

Pucks come in all the Speedy colors, except green :-D :-D

I'll see if Limey can help me post pictures, or if anybody wants to email me I'll send pics back.

About $70 total (with tax).

Pit posse has the kit on sale for about $60, plus shipping.

When I solve the axle slider puzzle, I'll post that, too

If the frame is the same, which I think it is, it should fit. The motor mount bolts on my '06 are M12 x 1.25 with a T-55 torx head. The shoulder on the frame is about 24 mm - just larger than the washer under the stock bolt head. The bolts that come with the CBR1000 kit are M12 x 1.25 with a 17mm hex head, and the slider base necks down from about 2" to 7/8" - just enough to clear the bulge of the frame tube on the right side.

I swear, it looks like the kit was made for the bike!

Don't forget, the shorter bolt goes on the left side, and its about 5/8" too long (On the '06, it would run into a plug, I think the coolant temp sensor), so stack some washers behind the bolthead inside the puck. If your bike has clearance, you can let the bolt run long. The longer bolt goes on the right side, and uses the original nut that fitted to the Torx bolt.

I'm happy with it, I think you'll like it, too :-D

Bill very impressive. And these seem to work out about $US70 which is about 20% cheaper than the Skykings.. Do you know if they ship OS?

Also, how do you feel about those rear mount sliders, do they interfere with your knees at all?

I've got the Skykings as front mounts, but a dual set would keep pretty much all the metal off the deck.

I don't know if Vortex ship overseas, But you can try pitposse.com. They sell the entire kit for about $60US, and replacement pucks are about $15 ea.

As for clearance, I'm 6'0", and the sliders are about 1" in front of my knee when I'm tight up against the tank. If I come off the seat, I can make my knee touch the puck. I put about 150 miles on the bike Saturday, and had no issues with the sliders :-D :-D

If you prefer, I the same kit will work on the forward mounts, just behind the radiator. In this location, however, the left side sticks out about 1 1/2" past the radiator and the right side clears the radiator by about 1/2". I think some shimming can even that up a bit, though.

What I like most about the Vortex is the ability to buy a single replacement puck in the event of an 'event'.

Bump! I just got these. I wanted it back at the top of the list so I can find it this afternoon when I work on the bike. Selfish, I know.

I put a second set of the CBR1000 sliders on the front mount. I had to buy an M12 x 150mm bolt to bring the right side out far enough to protect the radiator (US $4.44). I made washers out of the extra aluminum mounts that come with the pucks. It doesn't stick out as far as the Sky King, but I'm confident it'll do the job.
