Now then , just as a point of interest the tank covers are not painted but plastic covered in vinyl . I know this because i have just made my "Union" one into a wall clock for the workshop. This involved drilling a hole in it to fit the clock workings at the back , sad but true . :)
p.s - just as another point of interest , its only a Union Jack when its used on a Ship on Land its a Union flag ( GB ) , sad but true 2 .. :D

Well, no that is not true. The covers cost the dealers about 18 bucks when Triumph discontinued them. They cost them over $200 when they were a current item.

Triumph works on a list less program. They take your bike order, your parts order and your clothing order and the more you buy the more the dealer gets off the list price up to about 35% on parts, 40% on clothing and the bike margins vary. The call it the Triple Connect program.

I always keep this picture in my photobucket, just in case anyone wants to make fun of 68 stuff.

Handy if your tank has a dent and you want a cheap colour change, to freshen up a tired Bonnie.

I picked up a stolen/recovered T100, found a set of cheap used race yellow cam and side covers, then managed to find a new old stock race yellow tank cover on sale, cost the same as a used, scratched red one that was for sale.

Quickly sprayed the left side of the tank with cheap Aldi black peelable spray paint just to see if it suits and picked up a set of used Heritage tank badges as I don't really like the eyebrow badges.

Going to wrap the lower half of the tank in black vinyl and change the front mudguard.

I have a 68 monochrome union flag on my 2007 865 carbed bonnie ( i assume that means I have the smaller tank?), it was on the bike when I bought it, looks great imo. I also picked up a loose 2nd hand red cover, looks ok but comes out a bit pink in photos.
