...by Triumph? Somehow I get the feeling the "Sixty-8" accessories deal wasn't the resounding success Bloor and Co. were expecting. I don't see too many bikes on the twins forums rocking daisy pattern tank covers, et al, and I don't see any new accessories for the big tank EFI bikes that didn't exist prior to their introduction. Or is it just me?

I always keep this picture in my photobucket, just in case anyone wants to make fun of 68 stuff.
To be fair, I saw a tank cover they offered that was a cream color with racing stripes that someone used on a similar painted bike and it looked good. I had a 68 seat and cowl on my BBlack that looked good as well, so I'd give them points for that. Not a total failure. I always thought that the modern classic bikes were designed to meet the young hip market that likes retro stuff (think Von Dutch). I think that if Triumph knew the line would take off like it did, they'd have put out more of the stuff that shows up at Bellacorse, Brit Customs, TPUSA, et al. However, now I think they are very happy to just keep kicking out bikes and taking in money and forget the accessories.

Well it was a success but understand the tank covers where 300 bucks, only fit 01-07 and some 08 tanks. The tank badges arecglued on instead of screwed in so in essence there really isn't anything you can do to the efi tanks.

If that black & silver Union Jack cover fit my bulbous 2008 tank I'd have had it on there I'm sure. The Contemporary Seat, which I'd originally panned as being uncomfortable has become with time, a perfect fit. Either the seat broke in or so did my buttocks.

I don't know about a failure - I see quite a lot of the 68 accessories being used. It also covers the miscellaneous stuff like some of the clothing range and things like the clocks and so on.

I have a couple of the union jack tank covers, I think they look good. Still haven't figured out if they were serious about that flowery cover though......what was the inspiration for that?

You're too young to remember, Props. 1968 was the height of the flower power hippy stuff. Watch a few Austin Powers reruns and you'll get it. Lots of flowers painted on vehicles. Like I said, I don't think too much of this stuff was created with the serious motorcycle enthusiast in mind.

Well fair enough. I understood the flower power bit, but I didn't think any actual motorcyclists in the sixties were painting flowers on their bikes. But then again....that's not the point. Like you say, the whole Austin Powers thing is more what it's about.

I'd love to know how many flowery tank covers they sold. :Naughty

Ruger your bike is a carbed 08 with the big tank right? I would just keep an eye out for a tank on ebay. You can get those tank covers pretty cheap now. They do look good and fit well.

Granted, a lot of the Sixty8 items were questionable at best. However, a few of the items were very much a success IMO. I have a Sixty8 solo seat, and if I had a Bonnie Black I'd have one of the monochrome tank covers to be sure. Now, if only I had a few black seat cowls and some garden gate badges I'd be rich. :D

Now why didn't I think of this?

Yeah I have the crossover, misfit year.
I think I'll get the smaller tank just for aesthetic reasons even if I never get the cover. Great idea, Calliway.

The 68 Union Jack tank cover on my '06 red and white Scrambler really stands out and I've got no regrets, though a ditzy co-worker did ask me why I had the Confederate flag on my bike. But she's really hot and ditzy not dumb so she gets away with that kind of stuff.

My experience with the Sixty-8 contemporary seat is comparable to Ruger's: the more I rode the better it fit my derriere and more comfortable it became. I can ride it now for several hours without getting saddle sore or monkey butt.

I can't tell you how many times I had people ask where I got my tank painted when I had the monochrome Union Flag on the bike. To me it was obvoius that it was not pained on but the finish is really glossy and quite nice. They fit snug but will scratch the tank down by the seat.

I've got the Union Jack tank cover on my bike but only because it was collecting dust in our warehouse for years. Dealer cost on those things was next to nothing and mark-up was excessive. Working at the dealer did have its perks.
