Hello all,

Been peeking around here for sometimes now. Total noob here so consider yourself warned.

Looking to purchase my first bike and counter to some of the sage advice about staying away from 500+CC's I'm in love with The Thruxton (900). I definitely see a lot of good used 900s available, and the prices look right to me. I was in no rush to get one thinking I would pick up a beater until a begin to get my sea legs. However, this listing appeared a few days ago for a 2006 Thruxton with 6k miles. The asking price is $3000.

The description says it's not running and has been dropped. It definitely looks like low side damage to me. Some serious rash on the tail, case, and pipes. Do you think it's worth making a lowball offer and doing the repairs myself? I parted it out on parts beast. Yes it, s a lot but I would still be well under what they are going for used. Also, I am less likely to feel bad when I inevitably drop this thing during my noob status.

Big risk buying non-running bikes. Could be an easy fix or it could set you back more than a running one in the long run.

As for engine size it matters not. People can ride Gixxer thou's like grannies. Its all to do with your frame of mind / right hand not the bikes power.

Get what you like and just enjoy it !!

Agreed, I personally would not trust myself to get a bike up and running from junk status. Ask the project SV650 that has been sitting for the last few years.. I'll get around to it, I swear!
